Ok.. I have my prototype working for an PDA scorer which works with MSS. I would like some feedback from people with suggestion on what would be good feature to have. (Right now the squad lists, competitor info, an stage info is taken from what you enter in WinMSS)

I have screen caps of the app below.. let me know what you think, or if anything is missing

Some Items that are next on my list to add

1) Editing a stage after the fact (RM password, and new sig by shooter etc.)
2) Transfer from MSS PC by, SDIO (file), Wifi, Bluetooth, and Cable.
3) Modify Squad list on PDA
4) Add classifier on competitor Info PDA display
5) Reshoot of stage
6) Lock a stage results after competitor signature.
7) export results to MSS at the end of the stage/match

Cool stuff to add
-----------------

mid-match ranking of stages on the PDA (Eg view top 20 shooter in a stage at any time in the match, based on pts/time)

Let me know what you think!!

Looks very nice.
I can't quite see how you enter the score - are those comboboxes?
What are D6-D8? And how will it work when there's more than 8 targets?

yes, they are pull down combo boxes.. and if you have more then 8, it will scroll down the screen.. the "D"'s are disappearing targets..

that's pretty much on the money doesn't have to be too fancy. My only suggestion is to having wireless/bluetooth access to router to send results inputed to server. Will it be able to run multiple PDA's one per stage and therefore when connecting to winmss as a stage will it be able to be imported into master match score without undo stress to statistician... you may already thought of that...looks great can't wait to see it in use... Oh yeah will you port it to Palm?? that way it'll be available to a wider range of devices...

Did I say good job??

once I get the base App and communications written, my next step is to make it real time wireless bith ways (changes in MSS get pushed to the PDA, and PDA changes get pushed to MSS etc).. thats a lot more work, but the infrastructure I have built is the same, it's just the messaging

Actually scratch that...

Could it print a copy over Blue Tooth to a stationary printer that could be shared by all the mobile devices on the same range?

Yes.. that can be done.. There are a few different software packages for PDA printing, as long as the printer has the connection types (IRDa, Wifi, network etc. etc.)

How would the results from the PDA be downlaoded to WinMss? Also to a bluetooth enabled computer?

I'm assuming this is not an import...so how does it write to the backend?

Boy this would sure change the face of "going to pick up score sheets"

Now all we'll need is a bracket on the front of Waynes ATV to attach a laptop to

Yes, the PDA would talk to an App on the PC, which is responsible for getting the data to/from Winmss (client/server) (and it would also host a web server, so that anyone (shooters) who have a wifi PDA, can see the results anytime during the match. Plus it seperates the PDA "App" from the WinMSS "App" so that it's easier to just write a front end to different PDA OS's

Thats the Challenge.. There are two ways, and it's going to deal with "Support" issues in winMSS if I write directly to the table (which I can do) I'm going to have to work with the WinMSS team to get approval (but the good news for them, is that now they effectivly have an "interface" for external apps to talk to WinMSS (a real bonus on thier part)

No. what you do need is a bluetooth RFID scanner, which you can just they the competitor to wave his hand by the PDA to get his sheet all loaded ;) ;) ;) ;)

http://serialio.com/products/scanner/IDChampBT.php

The cool thing it that these types of things (printing on the spot/RFID) can easily be done as "add ons" which require extra hardware/software, and you don't need for smaller level 1/2 matches, but can easily be added for larger matches where they really become almost a requirement.

Hasn't this already been invented? Or am I missing something?

http://www.autoscoringsystems.com/pages/pda.html

Yes it has.. but.. 1) it won't have all the features that I'll be doing. 2) it's a replacement for MSS so you have issues about using a non-official scoring program (mine is built on top of MSS, and is only a way to extend the collection to the PDA. MSS still does the scoring). 3) ASS, won't have integration to classifications, score posting real time, or on the web.

The list goes on.. ASS does exists, but a better mouse trap is being built.

(Plus you have input on what can go in it.. ;) ;) ;) ;) )

BTW: have you seen the costs for it? (Per PDA!)

IPSC - Match version $310.00
IPSC - Shooter version $160.00
