Is SG551 with Long Barrel configuration classified restricted as well? I know SG551 in that SWAT style, shorter barrel is, but I wasn't sure about it's LB Variant.

Prohibited, actually.

The Swissarms PE90 series of rifles are non-restricted, except for the carbine version which is restricted due to the barrel length.

ok I heard something bout this rifle from a I guy I knew who owned a gun shop in Alaska..do you have any specs on this thing???

$900??????

To early to tell but from what has been posted it is an American made Sig Rifle that is simular to the Blue Star. I am attending the Shot Show and will post pics and info when I get back

hmmmm probably they will call it like

SIG-Lite... a watered down version with sloppier tolerances...however it could still end up being the bargain of the decade..

The US made SIG rifle is an internet myth! Stories about this have been floating around the US based gun boards for the past 2-3 years. Most guys that are gung ho for it, also want it to retail for under $1,000 US! That's probably where the "900 dollars" you mention comes in. You can contact SIG yourself, they have no plans to begin producing any variant of the 55X series of PE-90 anytime soon.

Well actually SIGARMS has plans to produce some type of rifle, apparently based on the SG550. They also hope to keep the price lower. How well they do, how long it takes to get into production, and what the final cost will be are all internet rumour.

... And since theirs is based on the 550 series, it will automatically be PROHIBITED in Canada.

Sorry to disappoint all you bargain hunters. However the only Swiss Rifles you will see in Canada are the ones made specifically for Canada in Switzerland.

Regards,

JR

This has been going on forever, I remember talking to the SIG Arms rep. about it, I think it was at the 2002 SHOT show, and he said to me that they couldn't keep up with all the changes to the regs on importing semi-auto rifles, so they were just going to import a pump-action version of the SG550. Did that ever materialise? No.

I suspect if it ever does come out it will be the SG550 a la the H&K SL8-1, i.e. single-column mag, thumbhole stock, no flash hider etc. to comply with US import laws. I find it hard to believe they will tool up in New Hampshire to make it, making pistols and rifles isn't the same thing. The Swiss Arms barrel plant is in Switzerland so that dictates most of the manufacture in Switzerland, IMO.
