Thought it was time to post some photos of something new. I picked up the remains of a Peabody (probably) carbine in 450-577 recently. The barrel was beyond hope and I had to sand a generous layer of patina off of the receiver. I had a .43 egyptian rolling block barrel lying around which perfectly matched the contours of the old barrel in the area of the stock so it is now on the gun. Still lots of work to do and I intend to chamber the gun to a variation of the 44-60 Peabody but based on a 45-70 shell for convenience (and cheap brass). Interesting how they adapted the rimfire firing pin to center fire; the pin runs down the side of the breach then makes a 90 degree turn through a hole in the breach block and another 90 forward as the actual point of the pin.
