As I am new here, I'd first like to say hello all! Second, I apologize if this is the wrong place to post my question. Im on my phone on my break at work.

I used to have a RPAL, and owned a chinese SKS and a Remmy 870. Last June, my mother was contacted by my ex-friend. He told her I was suicidal. She phoned the police. Long story short, I was arrested on my front lawn and had my two guns seized. The shotgun was not stored properly as it was not locked up. My front door doesnt lock, so I had the gun unlocked just in case. Pretty stupid of me, in hindsight.

The police pushed for a prohibition order, but my lawyer got me a peace bond instead. After my peace bond expires, I may apply for a RPAL/PAL. What do you guys think? Do I have a chance at getting my liscense re-issued? I took counselling as recommended by my lawyer to show the courts that I was/am not suicidal, and I still have the letter that the counsellor wrote. I also have numerous referance letters from firearm owning friends, and one from my fiances' father who was a big game guide for over fourty years.

Will it be a waste of time and money to take the gun safety courses again?

"...arrested on my front lawn..." No you weren't. You were taken into protective custody. Unless you were charged with unsafe storage as a result of not having the shotgun properly secured. If that is the case, you're toast. In any case, you need to read the 'peace bond'. I suspect you'll be denied though.

I was arrested w/ assault a few years ago. Long story short, I was a moron and been a good lad since. When I went through the process to get a PAL I challenged the test but was contacted by the RCMP saying "due to your previous charges/promise to appear conditions...etc etc...You must do the firearms course in order to apply" So I did the course. Faxed in the signed documentation and a few weeks later I got my PAL. Now this is my situation and my circumstances.

With your situation it may be a totally different story as depression and suicide are BIG RED FLAGS. If you have the supporting documentation from the professionals (lawyers, court findings, doctors etc) submit that with your statutory declaration explaining what happened. The worst they will say is no and you are out the cost of the test and application, on the other hand your conditions may have been lifted. Think of it as a donation which you may get a thank you card (P.A.L.) ;)

Good luck,

Thank you for your replys! I stepped outside for a smoke after getting out of bed in the morning. I was not aware that the police where at my house. There where three vehicles and five or six officers all pulled guns, ordered me to the ground and handcuffed me. I think "arrested" and "protective custody" is a matter of opinion and perspective, but it is also irrelevant. I was not charged with anything. The peace bond states that i may not posses or control firearms, crossbows, things that explode, etc. It expires in November.

I was never proven to be depressed or suicidal either. The officer in charge had only my mothers statement. Even the hospital saw no issues with my state of mind. The officer pushed for a five year gun prohibition. My lawyer essentially blew his case out of the water, but I agreed to this peace bond instead of going infront of the judge. Spent alot on the lawyer, and didnt want to risk a hearing, as the particular judge is, according to my lawyer, anti-gun, and tough all around. Again, the peace bond expires in november, and i dont plan on taking the course until next year sometime.
