Good day,

I just bought a Pedersoli 1861 Springfield repro, and i trying to get all the bits and pieces. Any recommendation for cleaning kit?

Also i looked on their website, and on the internet and i cannot see what kind of percussion cap i need. #10, #11 or musket cap?

Its my first black powder rifle so any help would be nice.

And for the vancouver island people, any good place to get black powder and other black powder supply?

Thank you for your help

The 1861 will require musket caps. In terms of do-hickeys you want/need, I would at least try for:

1) Possibles bag
2) Ball starter
3) bullet mold and casting supplies
3) bullet lube of some variety
4) black powder. FFg will do.
5) nipple wrench
6) Nipple prick
7) Patch worm
8) separate brass cleaning rod with muzzle guide and an appropriate diameter patch jag
9) cotton bore patches
10) Black Powder solvent
11) some form of bore preservative (e.g. bore butter, ballistol, etc.)
12) ball puller (just in case...)
13) powder measure
14) powder flask

While not an absolute necessity, I would get a length of plastic tubing that fits tightly over your nipple with a weight on the other end so you can siphon hot water from a bucket up into the barrel while cleaning - it makes scrubbing the bore after shooting MUCH less of a hassle.

Hope that helps!

Get ahold of jack adams at two paw traders in nanaimo he has most all of your shootin supplies (powder, caps, balls, minie balls, patches) and is at most gun shows as well.

Also check out trackofthewolf.com for some military accesories if you want to go that way with it. They have a really nice bunch of cartridge boxes i have one and am very happy with the quality. They also have a HUGE selection of good period muzzleloading gear and tools. They are great to deal with and very helpful.

Also for civil war era stuff try,

Milkcreekmercantile.com
And
Dixie gun works.com

They should have everything you nedd to outfit that gun woth regulation military accesories of the period. Bayonets, cartridge boxes, belts, uniforms, etc etc

Cheers, McLean

I would get in touch with the Malahat Marauders, the black powder section of Victoria Fish and Game Club. You may be able to get in on a group buy of powder. The caretaker at the club either is or has been a black powder shooter as well

I would recommend Track of the wolf good quality products and decent prices. Plus it is in the USA so our dollar goes a bit farther. Take advantage of it while you can.
