Came by a full length Norinco JW-15 and am really liking it. Yes, its an inexpensive rifle, but it performs very well, when I do my bit. I took it out to sight it in with a variety of ammo, and was able to print ragged holes with 10+ rounds at 25 yards with Winchester 555, ammo I normally would only use for plinking. I know 25 yards isnt much but it was a sighting in.

That said, the rear sight is fairly crude - can anyone recommend a basic peep or aperture sight that can be mounted on a weaver rail? I'd like to extend the sight radius as well as benefit from the precision of an aperture.

williams sights wrgs 54 but I can't find anyone. in Canada who sells them

You can order them direct from Williams, they ship to Canada. Western gun Parts also carries them.
Bear in mind you will need to use a taller front sight when switching over to the wrgs peep sight. If you calculate how much taller the rear peep sits compared to the rear leaf, you can calculate how much taller the front will need to be. Personally i really like the lyman 17A front sights that come with a variety of inserts, assuming your front sight blade is a replaceable dovetailed type. They come in several different heights also.

I went through a similar scenario recently and after not being able to find a set of peep sights that was both cost effective and clear on installation I simply bought a used minty .22lr rifle already set up with peeps from the factory.
You gotta love the way the "old" stuff was made...and at $225 delivered makes sense to me.
