Hi all, I am looking for some advice regarding choosing a Micometer Peep or Aperture sight for my Cooey Model 71 (.308). There's a photo below for reference showing the two sets of factory screw locations that such a sight could mount. I'll bring her into the gunsmith next weekend if need be, but I was hoping someone could provide some advice based on the photo below and let me know some options for a sight. I don't need anything too fancy just something that's adjustable for both windage and distance and fits any of the screw locations in the photo.

For anyone who may not know (in case it matters) the Cooey Model 71 was the "Canadian" version of the Winchester Model 70.

Any advice would be greatly apreciated

Many thanks :)

Any receiver sight for a M70 should work, Lyman, Williams make them; perhaps you could find an older one by these makers, or by Redfield. Often seen on eBay, or at gunshows, etc. An EE ad might turn something up. You will have to relieve the wood in all likelihood.
The scope base screw holes would work with a Williams Guide rear sight.

Irv at Western Gun Parts always has both the curved and flat designs in stock, about $120 or so. Just put two onto BSAs, the hole spacing is pretty near universal.

Thanks for the replies. I'm sort of thinking that something like an old Redfield, Lyman or Willams would be perfect.

I'll post an ad in the EE and if I turn up noithing I'll visit the gunsmiths on Saturday.

thanks again :)

Naugler,

we're both looking for the same sight. I'm needing one for my '67 Cooey Model "71". I checked my old Stoeger catlogs and a Williams FP70 would definately work.

Slash, the FP71 was designed for a lever not a bolt action, not sure if the hole spacing and the height would be correct... ;)

I'm thinking this is probably the best way to go as well. How does that adjust for wind? Just a dovetail?
