Hi, I am a shooter that started on peeps decades ago which I used to shoot well enough for my cross rifle crown badge. But, but now every single peep I shoot POI is high left, sights maxed out. I know it’s me but unsure how to fix it. Anybody tell me how bad my shooting style for peeps is to correct this problem? TIA

These are all new to me. I have taken a liking to firearms my late father enjoyed. I shot peeps well in my youth but can’t dial these in. I have everything from win 69’s, Marlins and Savage 99’s etc I can’t zero any. I am sure it’s shooting structure, but unsure where to ask. Thanks.

Peeps are rather simple in principle, eye lined up naturally through the peep and then looking through at the post or bead either centred on the target or holding just below the desired point of impact.... you could try removing the peep if possible and shooting through the larger aperture "ghost ring" style.
Other thing to try is let someone else shoot the gun and see how it does fore them?
If your shooting high and you can't lower the rear sight to adjust then a taller front sight would help. How high is it shooting and at what distance? Do you have the rear sight all the way to the right and it still shoots left? Is the front sight centred?

I may be wrong but think he is talking about more than one gun.
try shooting with both eyes open. When you squint one eye closed, it throws the other eye out of focus. Also make sure your face is in the correct location on the butt to see the aperature completely or symetrically. If your face is not lined up correctly you may be seeing the aperature with a fuzzy side on one side

I understand the concept of peeps and why it confuses me. I have 5 rifles with peeps and they all shoot high and some left for me. An example would be a savage model 99 in 250-3000 and it’s 4” high and left at 100 yards. My model 69a is 2.5” high at 25yrds. If it was only one rifle I would probably question the rifle. For the life of me I can’t figure out how I could shoulder them all in such a way to be able to see through the peep yet be so far off. The other issue is these are all stock sights from the early/mid 1900’s and I am not wanting to change anything.

Thanks, it didn’t dawn on me that my problem started AFTER getting glasses and it appears I settle my cheek far to forward with my usual glasses. When I take them off or use a pair that aren’t progressives my cheek placement is much farther back. I will see if I get a chance to get outside and test this theory today.

Another possible is your glasses are too powerful to properly see sites and target. I read with 3x but they are no good for peeps. 1.5 x or 2x work perfect. I was shooting high with 3x glasses.
Thanks I caught that, just making sure he actually new how to adjust the sights correctly and also trying to determine how off target he was.... I've seen people "max out their sights in the wrong direction...

It’s one of those moments when you realize how simple the problem was. DUH!!
Was driving me nuts as I finally acquired my late fathers first rifle (caliber 250-3000 and make in a savage 99 with peep) and wanted to hunt with it.

When i got progressives, my shooting improved. What they did do was throw everything off square. If that makes any sense. A cell phone or a sheet of paper, or a true machined square rule can look like a parallelogram. Stuff that is level does not look level, even with a level indicating it`s level. Those progressives really mess with your eyesight till you get used to them. O wondered if i was the only one who found that things looked weird with those lenses.
In my case, I went to the dollar store and bought cheap readers in five or six powers. Depending on conditions, type of sights, .phases of the moon, my time of the month, &c, I use 1.00, 1.25 or 1.50 power.
What worked in one situation yesterday, won't be the best for today. I often find it easier sighting in a new scope with 1.00 readers.
At $1,75 each, I can afford to pick and choose.

Haha, yeah being a carpenter it took sometime to get used to them.
Thanks, I am going to play around a bit now. Was an “Ah Ha” realization. Sun is shining and +2 so I am going to try and get chores done and try different glasses out.
