I'm ready to buy a M96 6.5x55 Swedish Mauser, to be used for Whitetail Deer hunting.

I don't think I am going to bother with a scope and would like to use a peep sight.

The gun is drilled and tapped for a side mount......?

Which peep sight would you recommend for this gun and can any peeps use these side mount holes?
Will I need to drill and tap somewhere else...?

Where can I purchase one of these peeps?

Thanks for the help

Williams or Lyman are good quality peeps.Removing the target aperature leaves a good sized eye hole to shoot moving game and let in available light.Your gun may have be pre-drilled for the European sights. Are you getting this gun from Trade-ex ?Harold .... E-Bay is a good source of used sights

Yes, Trade-ex

There are a few guns I'm looking at, some have bases...some have rings....some drilled and tapped for side mounts....

The one I want has the side mount holes, I'd love to use a peep.

Unlikely that the side mount holes or hardware can be used - unless you get someone to make up a custom bracket. The commercial peeps mount on the top of receiver bridge, or on the right side - google Williams. Why not try to find one with a diopter sight, or get a swedish site that can be used with one of Tradex's "pre-drilled for diopter" rifles?

Side mount holes are plugged with screws and can still be used.

I don't really want to put a scope on this gun, have plenty of scoped rifles....

Would like a slim mauser with a peep to keep it handy and light.

Ghost ring would be perfect, by the time I order in the sight and get the gun drilled and tapped I'd have too much coin into the gun.

I tried calling Tradex for advice, no answer two days straight
