Don't know if there's such a thing ?.Checked the weaver web site and didn't see anything. Is there such a thing as a peep sight that's mounts onto the rear scope base ? A friend would like to get one if there available.
Thanks !

I have one of those New England Custom Gun sights for mounting on a weaver scope base. Works fine, but of course, the scope has to be removed first, then the sight mounted. I have not tested the repeatability, but mounting is all set screws, so allen wrench needed - not the handiest to swap out in the field if your scope broke. There was a fold down type made by Brockman, I believe (not certain of the name) - was actually mounted into the rear sight base, then folded down into it to mount the scope, popped up ready to use when the scope was removed. I have not seen them for sale anywhere in Canada, and if they were ever offered on this site, I missed them... That type, in my opinion, would be the best type of backup sight to have - one that is ready to go, once the scope removed.
Since the rear scope base on a mauser is fairly tall, I have been toying with idea of an fixed aperture mounted to the rear face of the weaver base (drill and tap to attach). My idea would be for it to be back far enough to sit behind the rear scope base while the scope is mounted. I haven't worked out if the aperture would be high enough, if it was sitting just below the scope tube - would no doubt need some work to get front sight height to match - but still lots of winter left for that kind of tinkering.
