Peep sight options for Win 94?

Very good subject, so I will be the first to ask: who is a good source for peep sights in Canada? Will brownell's ship peep sights here? Thanks.

Peep sights

Great comments in this thread. Very pleased to see the people who appreciate and fully understand the peep sight. I shot a lot of game, including mountain game, with a Lyman 48 on my old 30-06 Husqvarna.
I have two pre 64, 94s, one with the Lyman, the other with the better, I think, Williams fp.

After reading this thread, It prompted me to wipe the dust off my model 94 and i ordered a williams fp, and am going to try a firesight on the front. Maybe now I'll actually use the gun seeing as how i couldn't shoot worth a @#$! with the original sights:redface:

Yes they will. Ask for USPS shipping to save on getting hammered with UPS style brokerage fees.

About $15 for me to ship two williams FP sights and a heavy set of gunsmithing screwdrivers just last week. You'll pay $5 + PST/GST on your package when it arrives. Mine took a while - customs wanted to know what was inside :D

I got a deal too - for some reason they gave me the dealer price (almost half off list) and didn't fix the glitch in my account until after my order shipped. I got the stuff at the pricepoint I ordered. Good people, I'll buy again to thank them for the favour.

.... A Fair number of local stores used to have both the Lyman and Williams in stock, some perhaps still do. Also check your local Gun Shop for used as there's really nothing to wear out, missing screws to mount them would be the only potential problem. The finish on both seems virtually indestructible, a little white crayon or paint even, will brighten the reference marks . Different sized apertures are also readily available used and cheap enough to try different sizes. .... just remember to loosen the adjustment "locking screws" before you really torque down on the main adjustment screws ! .... Your Williams looks much like the Lyman that I put on my 94. Is the aperature a little right of center? This is my first try with a peep and after sighting in at 100 yards with very consistent groups, I have noticed that the aperature is visually right of center. This does not make sence to me as the front sight seems centered, but the aperature is well to the right of the bore.
I might be confused, but I think you are refering to the Lyman Tang sight, that's not pictured in my post. It isn't adjustable for windage, or at least the one I had wasn't, to use it, I had to sight in by drifting the front sight. The one I posted is the Marbles Tang sight, and it has a windage adjustment.

If you were refering to the Williams Reciever sight, the FP, has click adjustments for windage and elevation, it's a nice sight, but it's made of aluminum.
That's not really a concern, as I have several, some of them have had some terrible spills over the years, and the sight remained bang on.
I've never seen a reciever sight that didn't have some sort of both windage and elevation adjustment, of any make. Even the Old Williams 5D had slide adjustments.
The Lyman, and redfield sights are steel, and are also excellent sights.
Frequently, these sights turn up on ebay.
But you have to watch for mad sight collectors like Maddog :D

I tried a tang site on my Marlin '95 and I couldn't shoot at all with it, it was in the way, there was no way i could properly grip the stock with that site in the way. I went for the williams 5-d and it is the cats' a%$.

The 5D was so named, because when introduced, you could buy one for 5 Dollars.
It's still an inexpensive sight.
It's draw back is the lack of click adjustments. It has slides.
If you're the type that changes sight adjustments alot, the 5D is the wrong sight. If you are a sight it in and that's it type, the 5D is just dandy.
I use the 5D on my 44-40 model 1892. It's a good solid sight for the purpose intended.
It's not quite as solid as the FP, but it's fine for most.

For those in Southern Ontario, Buffalo Gun Center had (December) a good selection of Williams FP for about $65 US and the 5D for about half of that. Nothing illegal about importing/exporting these sights. Unfortunately they didn't have the one I needed for my top mount Marlin 39A in stock.

People looking for these sights might want to post a WTB ad on the EE "parts" forum.....

I reckon some gun nutz probably have a few kicking around...

;-)

"Peep sights" for Model 94

.... Try some the Dealers Listed on this site, and there's always Numrich,Brownell's and closer to hand and better service, Western Gun Parts. Really check with your local gun stores and ask them to check their parts bin and "old stock" ..... even if you have to buy new, you really won't regret it, and once you've used a '94 with "peep sights" you certainly won't be in a hurry to Trade it off !!! ...... I put a Williams receiver sight and a Firesight front bead with Firesight ramp hood on my Win 94 BB 375, it is a great combination.

I put a Williams peep sight on my pre-64 94 last month and boy what a change. Works a charm. Got it from sirmailorder.ca in Winnipeg. Mid 60$ if I remember correctly. It's the only option for aging eyes too.
