peep sights allowed for cowboy action?

Some people prefer peep sights, but I have never bothered on my main match guns - if the targets are close and of generous size I aim my rifle more like a shotgun- just look over the barrel and point. If you are considering a peep sight you need to get a tang mounted peep - receiver mounted peep sights are not legal for SASS.
 
Ruger 22: don't bother with the tang sights, expensive and get in the way, you don't want things in the way in CS, save the tang sights for long range guns, where you are not being timed and they are not in the way.
 
Just to present the other side of the arguement I have a tang sight on all my cowboy rifles, main match and long range guns. My eyes will not focus on rear buckhorn, front sight and target so I use a tang sight with the peep disc removed, basically becomes a ghost ring peep sight. I do not find it gets in the way because you should not be wrapping your thumb around the stock. Some shooters use a semi or full buckhorn rear sight as semi peep sight, others prefer a flat rear sight and just have the bead over the top. Whatever floats your boat.

I like the tang sight so I can "see" the whole target.
 
Ruger 22: All my CAS rifles for the last 10 years have had a Lyman tang sight mated to a LARGE gold or white bead. I remove the sight insert and just use the threaded hole as a ghost ring. Entirely legal for any SASS sanctioned march and I find that it is the fastest setup for my eyes. With the tang insert removed you can still see all the targets around the sight. You can also replace the insert for the accurracy side matches. I find the Marbles sight with the windage adjustment too bulky and prone to problems. Just my 2 cents worth.
