Hi guys,

I was hoping to get your input about the peep sights on my Brno #4...

The rifle is awesome... the factory peep sights on it, on the other hand, I'm having a bit of trouble with...

So lets say I've got a good group going... but it's 1/4" low... if I loosen the locking knob and adjust it up a bit... suddenly the new group will be even lower, or maybe adjusted up high enough, but now off to the left (or other random placement)... I've been largely putting up with groups that are "close enough" for fear of losing my point of impact all toghether...

So my questions to you... is there anything I can do to tighten up the sight? The arm that holds the iris is kinda loose when the locking knob is loosened and will jiggle... it tightens up when the knob is tightened up again... I'd like to keep it and make it more reliable if possible, to keep the original sights on the rifle...

Second, do you guys know of other rear sights I can replace it with, if it comes to that, keeping in mind the dovetail it goes on is 15mm, not 11mm?

Thanks for the help in advance.

Quick answer here

Try contacting brnomann on rimfire central. He carries sight kits for this gun for around $100 I believe (incluing rear and front sight). From what i hear he is an excellent guy to deal with (and ships to Canada often; he is located in the US).

I am not sure how to fix the current problem you are having with it - maybe someone will chime in here that knows.

Hi ebruder, I have the factory sights on my mod 4 as well, What you want to make sure is you are turning the elevation knob counter clockwise to move up your POI.
Secure the elevation lock knob before shooting again.

Windage can change if you have play in the shaft that holds the iris piece in place, a special spanner is needed to tighten this nut. It must not be over tightened or it will lead to wear on the lead screw and cause even more play on the sight.

As far as I know there is no other peep sight that slides onto the 15mm dovetail like the original brno.

hope this helps you.

So, I do secure the lock knob after adjustment...

What nut is this that you talk about? Is it the thing with the two holes? Will tightening this help?

Thanks Brnolvr

Yes you must tighten the lock for elevation before you shoot again, otherwise the sight can move.

Yes the part with the two holes is the one you need to tighten, The tool is specialized that's needed for the job.
Do not use pliers or something else it will bugger up the nut.
To check this play you grab the Iris with your fingers and move it up and down, side to side . If there is play in that, adjusting the nut will help you. If no movement, Leave it alone.

Thanks... I'll give it a try... I tightened it with two finishing nails held in my fingers, so it's finger tight...

Hopefully that'll do it... I'll let you know.

Your welcome, Hope this solves the problem.
They're not the best sights out there but are well made and durable.

The Old Brno's are awesome like you said. Newer CZ's are nice but don't compare to the oldies for craftsmanship.

Let us know how she shoots for you now that the sight is tight.

I think I got it solved

So...

I took my sight apart completely... down to the little pin that does the clicks as you turn the knob (there are alot of little parts in those sights)... actually dropped the little pin, and spent an hour on my hands and knees in the basement until I found it!

So I learned alot how the sight works... in fact, the locking knob is just a friction piece that locks it in place in a track vertically and doesn't affect the left/right adjustment at all...

So I cleaned everything up, light oil for luck, and reassembled, including tightening the windage thing with the two holes!

I took it to the range today (25m indoors) and re-zeroed it... then I decided to do a box test similar to what you would do with a scope...

So, I shot 3 rounds on the target... then I adjusted up 30 clicks... wasn't up far enough... so I went to 60, shot 2 rounds... still not far up enough... so I adjusted to a total of 100 clicks up... shot 2... then went right... but it would only go 35 clicks... then 2 shots... then down 100 clicks... 2 shots... and back left 35 clicks to find myself back on the target again!

So then I took a bit to try some other targets and walked my groups around the bull by only 5 clicks at a time... and now that the windage screw with the 2 holes is tight... and I don't undo the locking knob all the way (just enough to let it move)... it's dead on.... no more randomness!

Yay! And for both windage and elevation... I now know that 1 click = 0.95mm at 25m! (I'll round to 1:1 for sake of my mathematical abilities!)

Brnolvr... thanks for the suggestion!

Watch for some more scores next month in the 3P and Prone matches!
