I recently purchased a Marlin 30-30 from a fellow CGN and wanted to put a peep sight on it. I was wondering if anyone had any input on any of these they have used? I am having a dilly of a time trying to decide between a Skinner set up and the XS model.

I've switched most of my leverguns over to Skinner rear sight and firesight front, I'm not sure about the XS but with the Skinner you can get diff. sized apertures for target or bad light shooting.

I put the XS front and rear kit on my Marlin 35 Rem. My eyes are older now but peeps still work for me. The XS is more of a ghost sight - a wider aperature.

The front post has a white insert which appears to work ok. I can shoot very tight at 50yds, not so good at 100 (4-8 inches or so) and beyond - well, I can hit steel pigs etc at 200, but I dont place them too well on the target.

I have a skinner on my 1895. Priced well, built well, and as ben says you can put any size aperture in it you want in depending on conditions. You can even take the aperture insert right out and use it as a ghost ring.

Go with the XS sight. The rear aperature on the XS locks in place more securely and has a wider range of adjustment. They also come with 2 different size aperatures. I have one set of skinner sights and were not impressed at all.

greetings :) I have an older 336 with the XS sight on for the peep. It works great. Just got to get the barrel indexed properly now lol

I have used both the XS and Skinner, though neither on leverguns. Both are great sights.
I personally like the XS a little better.
The steel is hardened, and tough as nails.
If the ghost ring is too "ghosty", Brownells offers one to fit the XS that is threaded to accept Williams aperatures.

I have used, and like the Lyman 66 as well as the Williams fool proof...Both work very well though I do prefer the Williams WGRS, and Brockmans Gen III..

I had the XS on a Marlin the Skinner on a Rossi and my favourite, the Fire Sight on a BLR, my second favourite was the XS the adjustment is easier than the Skinner.

I have used Williams, Skinner (Henry/H&R), NDS (on H&R)... They all work fine... Some have skinner brass blades up front... Some have the Williams Fire Sight One-Piece ramps.
