Pelee Island 2017

Port Pellee Rough, OMG it was completely undrinkable not even to cook with. Don't Buy it. Waiting on the supplier to make good hoping it was just a bad batch.
 
Yes, you can hunt Pelee without a dog if you enjoy that type of hunting. There are plenty of birds.

For the winter hunt you'd have to fly over to the island, the ferries don't run in the winter.
 
Greg, great to hear you will be back next year.

Unfortunately we will be hunting without a dog this year. Not by choice or plan, but that is how it has worked out. I will post back on how we make out.

Yes you can hunt Pelee without a dog. But in my opinion having hunted Pelee for 16+ years, some years 2 hunts, your wasting your time and money without at least one "good" dog for each two hunters. Yes you may get a couple birds if your in the right area the opening few hours with all the commotion going on, but after that the jokes over and you had better have a good dog. We always had two dogs when over there, on a few occasions I have had a dog cut a foot so it was a hunt saver to have a second one along. When we hunted four men we had 4 to 5 dogs.
Our best time was two men, one dog, 28 pheasants, in 54 min. off one long ditch row. We had 4 men in our party that year before somebody starts to get all in a dizzy that we shot to many birds. Doubt full we would had any birds without the dog. Many, many years we had all our birds by noon Thursday. We preferred the 3rd hunt as the crops are usually all harvested and there are more birds as all the birds are never picked up on the first two hunts.

Never did a winter hunt but from what the local fellas I got to know tell me. You fly over, there are not many hunters, and far fewer pheasants as your just picking up what's been left over from the fall hunts. By flying over you have no wheels to get you around so you will have to make arrangements for transportation. Pelee is only 9miles by 4 miles, but that's a big area when your on foot after getting off the plane at the north west side of the island.
