The birds flew great, worth every penny.

My hunting partner and I did 15+ years on Pelee some years doing two hunts. Always a great time. As always things change and evolve and not necessarily all for the better, last time I was down was two years ago after a several year absence. The hunt plus attitude on the island had change dramatically. Brought on in my opinion and experience by the hunters that refused to obey the rules over the years, which left the organizers of the hunts little choice if they wanted this annual hunt to continue.
Consider the second or third hunt, far less standing crops to contend with and more residual birds around from the previous hunts. We did the third for years and attended the second periodically if time permitted. We stayed at the Pelee Island Hotel for years until Darith sold it then we moved to a private residence.
Not that we tried to make a race out of it but our best time on opening morning was 20 birds between two men and one dog in 54 min. I was blessed with having very good dogs. And old Murphy a yellow lab was one of the best and we owe that record to his expertise.

Yeah a good hunt and good weather, I had two rookies and a rookie dog with me this year so out of the 5 of us we ended up with 45 birds. With that being said there were more than enough misses to make the last 5 birds and then some! I brought the new Maxis with me and didn't miss a bird the first day (twice I had to fire twice), second day, well let's just say I had a hellava good night and took a bit to warm up in the morning!

We have been going for about 6 or seven years, always the first hunt and this is the first time not getting a limit. All islanders I met were fantastic, friendly, genuine when asking about how the hunt was, no one was shot, dogs all survived, lmao.

10 bird limit, hens and roosters. Two day hunts, Thursday and Friday. 3 main hunts available, $200 license per hunt.
Ferry will cost around $40. Arrive on a Tuesday or Wednesday, accommodations will cost you anywhere from $50 to $150 per night.
Take ferry back on Friday or Saturday. Stay at hotels, B&B's, some residents board hunters, or camp.

Hunt starts at 8am and stops at 5pm. 99% of the island is open to hunt, no permission needed. You can shoot from the roadsides but not across the road. You can not walk in standing crops, your dogs can only retrieve from them if needed.

You can find all info on the following website, contact the ferry for more info.

After the 3 main hunts there are a number of clean up hunts that are not as costly, no birds are released for these hunts but there are plenty of birds left over.

I put out 3 woodcock, but didn't bother to shoot. I don't eat them so I don't shoot them, they are quite fun to watch though! You can shoot in crops but only with the farmers permission. They tend to allow you to shoot in the 'green' bean fields, but not the 'brown' beans. For us driving about 4.5 hours + food, supplies+ beverages+ shells and either bring the motorhome (Dad's) or buddy's trailer ost is approximately $500 each all in. It really is a great time for the novice or the veteran, awesome for getting the dog lots of flushes and retrieves.

I used to hunt Scugog Island fifteen or so years ago and it was $175 for 10 birds, gas was a hell of a lot cheaper then, point is Pelee is not bad for the price and the experience!
