Pellet choice for Daisy 953C?

I'm interested in hearing from those that have tried different match pellets in one of these rifles. What did you have the best success with, accuracy-wise?

Preferred head diameter?

I'm only looking at flat head pellets, domed head will be my second choice.

Flat head pellets are preferred for paper-punching at 10 meters, a distance very suitable for this single stroke pneumatic rifle with very little, if any, recoil. If nothing else, they punch clean holes which lend themselves for easier scoring. I had one of these rifles years ago and used JSB pellets around 7.72 grains. Heavy pellets may not be desirable as this air rifle is not powerful. The preferable head size can best be determined by testing. A good size with which to begin is often 4.52mm, but your rifle may show a preference for another size. The smallest head size in JSB is 4.48mm, if memory serves.
 
I have a Daisy 853 and have tried (as recommended by Grauhanen just 2 weeks ago) the JSB EXACT DIABOLO in 4.52 at 8.44gr. Just received them last Friday so have limited testing but so far they are great at 8Metres using peeps. I also have the same but in 4.53 diameter but not tried as yet. Unfortunately for your interest, these are DOMED, not flat.
 
I wish I still had mine. For wadcutters mine was great with JSB Shaks. Probably the cheapest semi-match pellet I could find at the time. But at ten metres accuracy was very acceptable with RWS Hobby.
 
The cadets use H&N Match
Personally, at home I've been using H&N Sport as my go-to practice pellets for 10M rifle and pistol shooting. And honestly, I can't say there's much difference in my group size/score when I shoot these vs when I shoot H&N Match Heavy.

Heck, a few months back I stumbled upon some Crossman match pellets I'd bough god only knows when. And I've started to shoot them, and beside a slight shift in the POI between the Crossman and the H&N, they seems to work just as good.

Unless you're shooting benchrest and/or shooting scores above 580, I wouldn't lose too much sleep over the "best" pellet.
- A good night rest and doing core exercise will have a bigger impact on your score than this or that pellet.
 
Good information. I have a couple different domed types on hand, namely JSB Exact Heavy and some Crosman hollow points, whatever was readily available several years ago when I bought my Diana.

If I'm going to be shooting paper with the Daisy, the cleaner the hole the better, which is why I'm looking at pellets with a match profile.

I won't be able to shoot much other than an air rifle for the next few months, I might as well make the most of it.
 
I quite like the H&N Match Green (lead-free tin alloy) with my HW75. True, it's a pistol instead of a rifle, but still a sub 500 fps single stroke, so you might want to give that a try as well. The H&N Sport mentioned above also gave good results.
 
I shoot the h&n excite econ in my 10m pistol, in my 753s I'm using the plinking. I sure would not notice the accuracy difference with even the best pellets. I shoot offhand though.
 
I always try Crosman Premier Hollow Points first. They are actually very close to JSBs in my HW97, Diana 45 and CZ630. Sometimes better.

I got them in .177 and .22 from Amazon for like 7.50/500 and 10.00/500 from Amazon a couple years back.
 
I might shoot a bit of offhand, I haven't shot 3P in a lot of years. Certainly nothing with a sling.

Come to think of it, I haven't shot anything with peep sights in a while either.
This might be more interesting than I thought.

Air rifle always seemed to be .. not interesting to me, for some odd reason. The current situation with closed ranges means I'm looking to give it a try. I think it might stick, even after this is over.

I've currently got a Diana with open sights, which in my hands really isn't a precision instrument, if you take my meaning ;)

Tough on rats at close range, but pin-head sized bullseyes are fairly safe.

I have some I got from CTC when I got the Diana, they're not bad.

I got back into airguns about 8 years ago, after moving to the country.
- The closest range is about 1:30H away... and I still wanted to punch holes into targets.

To convenience to be able to shoot at home is hard to beat. And shooting in the wind with a 177 is as fun a challenge as shooting 223/308 out to longer ranges

If you can shoot in the house it'll grow on you. It's nice to be able to shoot in -40 with a wind howling .... down your hallway.

I used to buy them at TSC on sale for $60 with a 3-9X32 Daisy scope . Those were a great deal . By the way they are discontinued .
