If a gun is rated for 150gr of powder max am I correct in thinking that 3-50gr pellets of T7 is a lower charge then 150gr. I thought that I read that in a post.

Some folks swear to 150 grain. I however, do not. I top out @ 90 grain 777 fffg, or 120 grain Pyrodex - depending on projectile. If your rifle groups it - good on ya.

A 150 grain rating is for pellets, someone can correct me if I'm wrong but 150 grains of loose T7 is way beyond the guns capacity. Most guys I know shoot either 2-50 gr. pellets or 80-90 grains of loose T7. My personal load is 90 gr. of T7 and a 300 gr, Nosler partition sabot. I'm comfortable with this load out to 150 yds,has good knock down power and grouping. I don't think you you need to shoot 150 but Sheephunter could probably give you more info.

Hodgdon's lists 100 max on the loose powder container not sure about the pellets but I think they are 50 grn equivalent not acutally 50 volume. If you go with the loose powder don't weigh your charges on a scale, load by volume or you will find out that 100grns by weight is actually 130grns by volume. Good luck

In my gun I tried pellets 3-50's, 3-30's, 2-50's, loose, etc etc. The best was 90-100 in loose or pellets using pyro. Using T7 I would get hang fires, but this was in my gun and yours will be different also.

I usually shoot 120 gr of loose pyrodex behind a saboted 300 gr 44 cal Hornady XTP in my Gonic inline muzzleloader and while sighting it in this fall I tried 120 gr of loose T7 under the same sabot and I could tell the difference in recoil as soon as I shot it, it also grouped about 4" higher at 100 yards than the same amount of Pyrodex. I am thinking about changing over to T7 and will probably just use 100gr loads if they shoot well.

I just ran into another guy today who told me that his muzzleloader was rated for 150 gr. T7 so that's what he shoots because you should always shoot max loads so that you can shoot further. Retained energy never came into the equation.
