Penner Precision is a Canadian Veteran owned company manufacturing Hi-Tek coated hard cast projectiles. Hi-Tek Supercoat was developed specifically to provide reloaders with a cast bullet that didn’t smoke and gum up reloading dies like traditional wax lubed bullets. Properly applied, the coating molecularly bonds to the lead, encasing the entire projectile in a protective shell that is self-lubricating. This proprietary coating contains no PTFE or Moly.

What does this mean for the reloader and shooter?

This is good news. We can use another Canadian manufacture of projectiles. I could not find Hi-Tek coated bullets in Canada until now, thanks Budget Shooter.

Penner are great bullets. It's some of the same tooling/molds from JTT. I prefer shooting coated over lead as it's a lot less smoky. And compared to copper plated, I can drop my powder charge .2-.3grs and still maintain the same fps.

Pass on to Mr Penner that currently Cowboy Action shooters across Canada are having difficulty in finding cast lead bullets due to death, medical difficulties, retirement of a number of commercial castors in the past 2 years in Canada. Bullets like the .38 Spl, 158 grain LRNFP, among others are near impossible to find. This might be something he might want to explore.

Budget does stock the Missouri 38sp 158 SWC bullets. He just got in a big shipment recently. If you really need the round shouldered flat point, they also carry the Campro 38sp 158gr RSFP. I load those up to run in my Marlin lever. They work great.

SWC does not cycle well in the majority of lever guns, although there are some exceptions like the Chiappa M92 Alaskan. Campro produce great bullets but cast lead is only allowed in Cowboy Action matches.
