I'm looking at getting this scope for the gun range. I'm just not sure if it has enough eye relief of 20 mm. I don't really want to be taking off my glasses every time I check my shots. I'll mostly just be using it for 200 yds, but occasionally farther. Anybody have any input?

That is a heck of a spotting scope. Should work really well for you to 200m and much further. I can't really speak to the eye relief though. I haven't used THAT particular scope. I have a very similar scope in swarovski that I was ok with looking through with my glasses on. My Bushnell elite was very short eye relief and difficult to use with glasses. I've since had laser eye correction.

Right on, I guess it's not the end of the world to take my glasses off to take a look.

I don't wear glasses so I can't offer any opinion on that. I do have a PD80 ED though and for the money it's amazing glass.

Pentax doesn't show much on their website about available eye pieces other than the power. Kowa however shows what eye pieces are available for each model. Pelee Wings sells just about every kind of spotting scope and has a selection of different eye pieces to suit. I would try to contact them to see if a long eye relief eye piece is available for that scope. They also have some of the best prices on spotting scope in Canada.

Yes I've been dealing with PeleWings.

I'm curious, how does the Pentax hold up for 1000m shooting? Or is it better to look at the next higher price bracket for that distance? (I'd love a Swaro but...)

Thanks Mike. I'm more interesting in seeing the wind and mirage, as well as impacts on steel or dirt/dust being kicked up.

In the mornings I can see 6.5mm holes at 600 yards with my 20-60×80mm swarovski HD. That's about the limits though.

There was an article in The American Rifleman a few years back about optic's used at the Camp Perry match. It seems like the Kowa's + their LER eyepiece were the most popular.

Personally, if I had a unlimited budget I'd get a Kowa TSN883 Prominar + their Kowa TE-17W 30x eyepiece... Probably the nicest scope I ever had the chance to look through. But that would be a $4K setup. A little more than I'm willing to spend.

So I ordered a PF80. My reasoning
- It's probably 98% of the Kowa @ 25% of the price
- I won't notice it unless in extreme conditions (low light, using higher power eyepiece)
- It uses astro eyepieces

Another nice contender, is the Celestron Regal M2 80ED with LER 27 eyepiece
