Peoples obssesion with Leupold Rifle Scopes

People think if they blow 1000 bucks on a scope it will make them a better shooter, and make their gun shoot rainbows and unicorns.

Careful shopping will almost buy a couple VX3s for that $1000 price. One could just as easily say that some people think spending a hundred or couple hundred bucks less buying lesser scopes is going to make a magical difference in their finances.
What's the season/trophy fees for unicorns? Sounds like something I could get behind.:D

X3 on the unicorn hunt. I will even provide the trailer to stay in and the P51 to nail them with when they lift off :)

When I was younger I had a Tasco on my.308 model 742. My father bought a new hunting rifle and a new Leopold for it and passed down the Vari x II his old browning A bolt had. When I had question about not hitting a deer at 75 yards, I sent the scope to be fixed, turns out the barrel was worn, they basicly rebuild the scope and sent it back.

Likle the other said, find something you like and keep useing it.

I bought a Styer prohunter to replace the 742 and I put that scope on it.

This setup will by far out shoot me.

Rifleman.

Wait a minute, are these winged or unwinged unicorns? Iron sights may be more appropriate if we have to wingshoot them. Ground pounding them may be a breach of ethics, but I'm sure someone will weigh in with the approved protecol.

Today I had a little "mishap" at the rifle range.
Long story short, my .458 x 2inch Mauser & it's scope took a three foot plunge to concrete.
Rifle was unloaded of course.......

Dusted it off, checked the bore, & began shooting again. Whew! Leupold VX3 scope & Millet extension rings held up, no sweat!

This is a torture test I wish not to repeat.

Doesn't winged make it a pegasus? or at least a pegacorn ?

Could be, I didn't know we could clobber them until an hour ago. I'm thinking a pegasus is either a polled unicorn or a non-trophy. It'll take awhile to get up to speed on the subtle nuances. Apparently they are measured along the shadowline of the spiral. Non-typicals are very rare.

I'm sure they are great but personally I can justify spending more on a scope then I would on the rifle under it.

Would you have bought the rifle at all if you couldn't put a scope on it? Besides, a rifle can be bedded, tweaked, rebarreled, adjusted, customized. A scope will never be anything more than what it was at the beginning.
