Alright first off I know this may sound like it's in the wrong board but bear with me. I was thinking if I was to hunt beside another hunter and I used a PEQ laser attached to say a bolt action rifle, if I paint a target with the laser will the deer see the laser? I understand that the PEQ or ATPIAL is a straight line beam from the device straight to the target.

If an animal like a wild boar or deer can see the laser beam, is there another device or is there another setting on the PEQ that just shows a dot on the target but has an invisible beam?

Reason why I ask is so that 2 hunters don't shoot at the same target when we both can bag a deer instead of a single deer with 2 holes....

Thanks!

Visible lasers have an extremely limited range in broad daylight (can be hard to pick out on a solid color wall at 10m in the sun, and even a not direct sunlight wall at 25m) and are only really potentially useful in low light (dawn and dusk, or inside buildings). Peq-15s primary purpose is its IR laser for use with nods, in which case it would be helpful, however we are not allowed to hunt at night so again... pointless.

Another thing to consider is how fur absorbs the laser beam. When I play with my kittens, I like to make them attack each other, but the beam from my Peq-15 is nearly completely absorbed by thier fur.

Thanks for the input! Of course the laser would be better near dusk or at night but I prefer to hunt mornings just as the sun is about to come out. Just wasn't sure if these lasers were useful during the day and whether painting a deer with it would work or not.

PEQ Laser: $1500

"I'm gonna shoot the one on the left, Bill." : $Free

This sounds like a situation of "But honey! I had to buy the $1500 laser! How else are Bill and I supposed to safely and ethically hunt deer?!"

Visible green lasers, like the ones on the DBAL-A3 / I2 models currently on the market are usually a bit brighter than the red lasers. That said, in daylight they still won't work very well. Heck, even the high power military/LEO only models can get washed out pretty good on a sunny day.

Never did get clarification on this, but in Alberta it's also illegal to hunt big game with a light. A laser is essentially a very focuses light. Not sure if the conservation officers would make a distinction or not. Have never asked.

Whenever I had the opportunity to shoot multiple big game with a hunting partner, we're also out of range of them overhearing a whispered conversation about who's gonna shoot what. It's never been a real issue for me personally.

Oh, come now...this is a recurring problem, and happens with monotonous regularity. I don't see how anyone can possibly get by without a laser on their hunting rifle...

I think a cheaper solution would be to modify/buy a modified laser and just throw it in a picatinny mount. I picked one up a few years back that you could probably see from the damn moon

Lasers are for QCB fast aquisition, and for "painting" targets they are used with night vision so guys with night vision can see it and those without can't.... so unless hunting at night with night vision no not gonna help you.

Also lasers are not passive meaning even if the dot is on an animals chest they can still see the sorce or the light.
