Performance difference between SA and LA chambered in 284 Winchester?

Potshot, just my two cents. I have a model 7 s/s chambered in .284. Love it, it has been my rainy day and still hunting gun for the last 10 years. I run 150 grain bulllets, usually cor loks for deer and 145 grain grand slams for moose.

Model 70 short action 284 here. It will be a bit heavier than doing it on a model 700.

Can also consider the tikka t3/t3x action if a detachable mag is an option. The long magazine allows up to 3.3” col that is perfect length for the 284w. Can sit any 7mm bullet as far as you like just need to throat the barrel right.

Just went through this exact dilemma and went with the Rem 700 SA to standardize with my other rifles as well as to have the shortest lightest setup. I too was concerned about COAL and wanted zero performance loss. I went with the Wyatt Baney Box (allows 3.1”). Henry Rempel can inlet the action to fit the box for a pretty reasonable fee. I don’t think I will even need the 3.1” and will stick with ~3” for 162gr. I’m using a b&c titanium stock (the ADL version with pillars) to further cut weight.

Thanks. The gun was originally a 243 that todbartel of cgn fame assembled I believe. I’m at least the 4th owner??
I had a 9T 2B Bartlien put on it. Now 23.5” fluted, weighs 8lbs as pictured and balances on the front action screw. I like the weight, how it handles and how it shoots.

Yes I was original owner. I got stuck with the stock after it didn't fit the rifle it was ordered for due to an error on my part. Corlanes inletted the stock to take a floorplate (was blind mag) and I dropped a M70 Ultimate SS 243 into it. I would of kept it but I shoot LH. I like it now as a 284!

I owned that one for a bit. I would have kept it were it not for the 1:10 twist. I agree it’s way cooler as a 284. I like the bolt handle and flutes too.
