Persersoli Sharps Action - strong as Ruger #1?

The sharp's design has sort of sideplates that step in to the back of the receiver while the ruger has straight sides back to the back of the receiver. That leaves a weak spot on the sharp's rifle, relative to a ruger or a high wall, at least in my opinion

Kirk the owner of Shiloh Sharps has stated on many occasions that a Shiloh Sharps is just as strong as a Ruger #1, and maybe stronger.
He has tested one to destruction and he had one hell of a time blowing it up.
The Peds would be the strongest of the imports, but unless you're shooting a 45-70 stick to black powder.
The thing about lead bullets is that after a certain velocity around 1700 fps penetration starts to drop off.
Penetration is how these rifles kill so well, they put a nice big hole right through the critter.
Bill Bagwell just got back from Africa where he took a variety of game with his 45-110.
The pro hunter that he was with couldn't believe how well the rifle worked on game and ordered a Shiloh.
They are hard to beat.

Can you shoot smokeless power in your Shiloh Model 1874, or is it strictly a blackpowder rifle? Our attitude here at Shiloh is that blackpowder makes these rifles what they are. It gives the feel (and smell!) of what it was like for buffalo hunters or target shooters over 100 years ago. And, it also is capable of extremely good accuracy all the way to 1,000 yards, with the assistance of a good spotting scope and someone to get you on target.

However, some Sharps shooters shy away from using blackpowder for whatever their reasons. Therefore our rifles that are chambered for cartridges for which modern factory manufactured smokeless powder ammunition is available are warrantied for such ammunition. Those are the 30-40K, .38-55, and .45-70.

NOTE: We do not recommend that smokeless powder handloads be used in the large volume blackpowder cartridges of the 1870s. There have been reports of excessive pressures, even detonations, happening when too little smokeless powder is loaded in large-capacity cartridges. The big blackpowder rounds were meant to be loaded with blackpowder, and they perform better with blackpowder. Therefore if you desire to be a smokeless powder Sharps shooter, stay with those calibers for which smokeless powder ammunition is readily available.

As per #### Trenk, who was (is ??) Pedersoli's rep in USA, both their Sharps and Rolling Block actions are rated to 29,000 PSI. Speer has loads for this pressure in their #13 Manual. I think this puts them in the Level 2 range for the 45/70, in with the 1895 Marlin and 1886 Winchester/Browning. Don't have the manual handy, but I seem to recall that you could push a 400g Speer JSP to around 1700fps.
 
the Pedersoli Sharps is DEFINITELY proofed higher than the trapdoor. The trapdoor is proofed to something like 14000 psi while the sharps is proofed to 29,000psi. Granted, it is WELL overbuilt for that pressure and could likely survive more than 29K psi, but they are NOT as strong as a Ruger No.1 which is proofed almost three times that level.
