(Not sure if this belongs in the Hunting section or Off-topic...but it does concern hunting so I figured here?)

I don't know how many people have seen this type of hunt before but I sure hadn't. I know there are many different ways to hunt animals: bows, guns, snares, harpoons, traps,etc.. but I never in a million years thought anyone would do this --> h ttp://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9wI-9RJi0Qo

It's pretty much some African tribesmen hunting some sort of deer/goat like animal, they start by tracking it using their outstretched arm. Then they run after the bull to seperate him from the herd. They continue to track the bull while running after him and following him across the plains and through the brush. Once they're close enough to him, one hunter (the runner) will run after him until the animal collapses and is ready to die. The runner then uses a spear on the collapsed animal (who is pretty much already dead at this point) to finish him off.

The whole hunt is done on foot! That takes perserverance!
I hope you guys enjoy it as much as I did.

Hmmm...visions of outrunning a moose through the muskeg.

I think I'll let one of you younger fellers do that. I'll wait on the other side......with a rifle.:p

Some natives did similar hunting, but at least they had horses. If there is no other way to eat, I guess you have to do what you have to do. I sure like my spot in life after watching that. Although that method of food aquisition could be good for some people. They wouldn't be able to eat themselves to death if they had to live like that.....

This is pretty much how hunting started. Animals with 4 legs are built for short term speed and are genereally bad at sustained long distance travel. Humans, with our two legs are the opposite. Even if the humans a couple millions of years ago couldn't manage to build a great projectile weapon, they could pick up any stout stick or rock and kill prey when they caught it by just running it down.

I out run my horse all the time, and my dog too..........
They can run all day long, I can run for a couple of hours max.......

When I was a young teenager I used to do persistance hunting.
I would pick up an elk or moose track first thing in the morning and follow it until dark in the afternoon!
Now that is "persistance" hunting.
