Personal Observations about Colt python and Desert Eagle Pistols

I have been observing this for a while and I thought I should share it and see if I am on this alone. It's about Colt python and Desert Eagle pistols. These two guns are hardly found in the market. I mean, you dont see many people posting them online for sale apart from stores. I am new to this forum so i might never have seen what and what is posted on the EE forum. Anyway its my own personal observations and Sorry if you found this post annoying.

Desert Eagles are abundant here on CGN as well as new at dealers. Colt Pythons or any colt revolver for that matter not so much. Until recently Colt revolvers haven't been in production in over 15 years. Prior to that they had relatively low production numbers when compared to S&W so any Colt revolver is somewhat rare here in Canada. Today Colt only offers one compact 38spl model that's prohibited in Canada.

If you're a colt revolver collector in Canada it's actually easier to find Pythons than it is to find their other models.

When you get into really shooting accurately with a pistol you'll find that todays prices on The Colt Python aren't really that unreasonable considering what you're getting. Compare prices of them to modern premium production revolvers such as Korth, or Manurhin and they don't seem priced out too much after all. Despite the debatable claims that The Python was the greatest production revolver ever made, their is no doubt to their beauty.

I'm in the market for a Python. How much is reasonable for a bright nickel 6" without box or papers? I just figure that the extras will put it way out of my range.

A few years ago, when I had much more disposable income than I do now, I bought a number of guns from a local dealer. Some were purchased on lay away, some were purchased on a whim when I had the money. I bought a beautiful Desert Eagle, .50 AE, blue finish, around $2500.00 new in it's plastic case. Then I bought a spare mag for around $75.00. It is a beast. Next one will be a .500 S&W. As for a Python-I would love to have a Python of any configuration. There aren't that many for sale and I don't have much disposable income anymore. If I had a favorite it would be an 8" Barrel, .357 version. Although any or all would be good for me.

The three German proofed Pythons in the Switzer auction referred to earlier in this thread went for $2242.50, $2300 and $2645. That is including the 15% buyer's premium they charge on top of the hammer price but not including applicable taxes, S&H or insurance.

They have an early (1957) Python in their Oct 20 auction. The online bidding is at 3250 + premium, tax, etc etc. It will be interesting to see what it fetches. (I'm guessing a lot less than it's US value)

That's hard to say as you don't see them all that often. My Colt catalog suggests a 10% premium over the blued models but I think that number may be a bit higher in Canada. I don't recall seeing one offered under $3,000 on the past couple of years.

edit FWIW I see a reputed to be unfired Nickle Python with box and papers went for $5650 at Switzers last February and another (also with a box but not claiming "unfired") sold for just over $4700 in 2017.

A claimed unfired in box 6’’ nickel Python from the early 60´s sold on the EE a couple months ago. It was an estate sale. Asking was $4k and sold as soon as pictures were sent to potential buyers.
