Personal Surplus Choice

Yeah, a terrible waste of ammo! You guys are.... wait!! I do that! No, no, it's okay! Fire away!:p

Four of us put 800 rounds of 7.62x51 through three FN's in an hour. We took turns, three shooting, one loading evil 20 round mags. Those were, of course, in the "good old days".

Coming from one who shoots gophers with a 12ga., I think shooting lots of ammo is good for the soul.....:p:ar15:

Shooting lots is good for the soul.

And just because someone shoots lots as in the case of Stevo doesn't mean that they are just waiting ammo willy nilly either. It just means Stevo and I are at the range every day of the week.

We have good times out there.

Of all the surplus I've fired, the Polish stuff was the worst. Mine was from the late 1980's. '87, I think. It grouped alright, but about 30 rounds were duds and it was filthier than most other corrosive rounds. Even then, for what I paid for it, it was worth the money.

I'm going through some Ukrainian stuff right now. It says "Imported by Century Arms, MTL" on the boxes, so it's been in Canada for a while. It shoots very well and while dirty, it's not all that bad. I had 2500 rounds of it, there's about 480 rounds left, I'll probably shoot it all tomorrow.

After that, I have 1440 rounds of that Chinese stuff TradeEx has. It just arrived yesterday in a big wooden crate with two span cans inside. I have no bloody clue how you're supposed to get the cans open with the provided tools, I just used the opener that came with a spam can of Polish stuff I bought a while back and that worked fine. The spam cans were basically 90% rust, but the ammo looks fine. I'm going to take 20 rounds of it with me tomorrow to make sure it's not all dead. I think it'll function fine.

Ive been through about 300 rounds of the chinese stuff in my SKS. My first gun and first ammo ever and there have been NO misfires at all. don't be fooled though. Ive seen the chinese stuff listed as NON corrosive but it certainly IS. I left my gun for 2 days after shooting and the bolt face and firing chamber had rust on it. Lesson learned.

The spam can was a pain to open (so far the 2nd one is still sealed). I used a mallet and screwdriver to get the edge open, then I pealed the rest back with brute force and vice grips. Not easy, but what was inside was clean and still perfectly packaged. I was BLOWN AWAY by the condition inside. Apparently those spam cans are well sealed.

just bought a 2nd case to "keep" for a while. But I may pick up a 2nd spare case of romanian stuff just to try.
