You read the same forums I do! I've been watching for a while to see if a deal came up. Not quite ready to pull the trigger yet...
I'll be honest, any IR lasers over 0.7 mW terrify me. I paid too much money for eye surgery to go blind due to an errant reflection.
If not for that, I'd be all over one of these.

Powerful yes, but I’d be super worried about reflection from that level of laser, both on eye balls or toasting my tubes. I know of a few guys who’ve used full power peq2 and damaged their tubes just from ir reflection off white paper targets at close range. I would never buy one. My class 1 dbal gives me More than enough laser range, no issue out to 400m. It’s not exactly like your using it to designate air strikes
Bingo. You need to have far better muzzle discipline with a full power unit vs an 'eye safe' unit. Reflections downrange can make for a bad day.

Lightsaber lasers scare me too; muzzle discipline is only part of the equation when reflections are involved. IMO, the bees knees would be a civi laser packaged with a full power illuminator. My only reasoning for getting a full power unit would be for the illuminator anyway

Well I got the perst 4 today. Pretty much 2.5 weeks door to door from russia. Packaging was nice as it came it a well made aluminum can with a threaded lid. Inside was the perst, cr123 battery, the pressure switch and the manual which is written in Russian AND English.
Initial observation is that the perst is well made. Fit and finish is nice and build quality feel solid. The rear lever paddle switches between IR and VIS mode while the large activation switch on the top and back active the laser. The activation button itself has a nice positive feel to it and similar to an enforce light, it allows for multiple ways of working the laser. Hold the button down for longer than .5 seconds and release and it allows for momentary use of the laser. A quick tap and release allows for constant on while a quick double tap activates the stove feature. The included pressure switch also allows for same. The device also has captured turret caps for the windage and elevation along with rubber seals on the caps (all of them actually) to prevent water damage
The device also allows the user to turn the power level down and up based on preference. This can be down with up and down arrows on the unit or the dial on the pressure switch.
The pressure switch itself is well made. It has a very positive ball bearing (pull back and click) method of connecting to the device similar to connecting attachments to an air hose/compressor. The switch connects to pic rail via mounts located on each side of the switch. The pressure switch button is a little mushy when compared to the buttons on the device itself, but it's still very usable.
Overall I'm very impressed with my initial hands on observation. The unit is small. About the side of a deck of cards I'd say and is nice and low so it will still allow for the use of a front sight on an AR platform. Anyways here's a few quick pics.
