Hello All

Just wondering if anyone has a pet accurate load they would share.

I bought a Tikka T3 in 243.
The only thing it going to shoot besides paper is coyotes.
So far I've tried 58 gr and 75 gr Vmax and 80 gr Sierra.
Looking to the lite bullets not overly concerned with long range shots so high ballistic coefficients is not a huge concern.

I've tried 3 different powders in combination with the bullets.

The best it's shot so far is what they say it will 1 moa.

It's gotta do better than that !

I had a savage axis that would make a 3 shot ragged hole all day.

If it wasn't for the cheap clip I'd of kept it.

Anyway just looking for some input.

Thanks

Had the same gun. Near max. load of H or IMR 4895 and 75 V-Max produced consistent .5 MOA 5 shot groups as long as I did my part. Would get .3 MOA occasionally under perfect conditions.
Tried 58s and they wouldn`t group worth a damm. Hornady 87 V-Max also shot really well and was a hammer on coyotes. Varget worked very well also and would be my second choice. Very consistent and never lost zero, only reason I sold it was because I gave up coyote hunting.

Thanks for the info. The one powder I don't have is 4895 I've been looking for some.
I do have varget on hand.
I'll try max loads with the 75 gr Vmax and the powder I have on hand.

Thanks again !

I remember reading something along these lines that because tikkas tend to have a slower twist you bullet weight choices can be affected. Try running some through the Berger stability calculator to see what spins the best based on your twist and stick to that weight range ?

Yeah that’s not fun.

I had a 243 tikka t3 a while back it shot the federal power shok 80 grains pretty good.

A quick look at Berger those 75 should shoot. Can you find anything in the 60 grains weight wise ? If you find something and don’t have GRT or quickload I’ll do a sim a figure out what powders are best. :)

Have one in .243 with the blued barrel. It'll shoot cloverleafs with almost anything. With the 75g I believe I was doing 40g of imr 4064.

Tikkas are generally long throated. Push the bullet out as far as the magazine will allow and the case will still hold. Mine all like max or near max loads, and they run best dirty--I don't clean mine often, not until accuracy starts to drop off.

I measured the throat in this thing and it is very short.
I can't remember off the top of my head what it was.
A buddy of mine is a very competitive bench shooter and he was even surprised by how short the throat was.

Same as my 243, which is no longer a 243…. Very short throat. Shorter than COAL for certain bullets. I think I had a post about this in the past. It did shoot well though as a 243.
