How many grains do you typically use? I've got a big bag of cheapie soft nose bullets for plinking, introducing friends to shooting and hitting gophers. How many grains would you suggest from your experience? (I've got a Tika t3 lite in stainless.)

54.0-56.0 grains should be good in a rifle thats in good condition.

You certainly dont need power to shoot gophers. They dont charge the hunter very often! Lol!

I might add, there is no better way to learn to shoot than a gopher field! Lots of action, moving targets, small, and at varing distances. Perfect!!!!

Yes, do consult one or several reloading manuals to get a starting load.......Most '06 shooters will wind up using between 58 and 60 grains of IMR4350 to launch a 150 grain bullet at between 2,900 and 3,000 fps.....Work up in one grain increments....

I use H4350 which is usually a little slower that IMR4350. In my Savage 116 '06 w/150gr Hornady SSTs I get 3030fps with 60gr of H4350. With Hornady 150gr GMX's I have to drop to 57gr of H4350 to get 3030fps.
