Hello everyone
I got a BNIB weatherby vangard S2 on a trade and I'm not sure if Im going to keep it or sell it.
I picked up dies and some brass.

If I was to shoot it I'd want to use lite bullets just to ring a gong or blast coyotes very far away.
Does anyone have a pet load for that model and caliber that I could start with.

I'm pretty stocked up on powders but I need to buy some bullets.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks for looking.

to make really low power you can use trail boss powder and light bullets. Trailboss seems to be loaded by case volume (you need to double check on that. i only use it for handguns)

I would recommend to use the longer bullets (110 to 120 grains). With lighter bullets, you will burn your barrel pretty quickly.

My own Vanguard 2 likes 110 gr. ELD-X and 100 gr. Barnes TSX. It does not like 110 gr. Interbonds.

Powder wise, it works well with IMR 7828 and H1000. Mine does not like RE25.

Other powder options would be IMR7977 and Retumbo.

The ballistics will be better with the longer bullets, because of the superior BCs. The lighter bullets will shed velocity pretty fast.

Hey
I have a Weatherby Vanguard Wilderness in .257 Wby Magnum. Using IMR 4831 64grs. Nosler once fired cases, Federal Magnum Match primers and Barnes 100 gr TTSX loaded to 3.170" I was able to get achieve .454" groups at 100 yards. 3310 fps. Average.
Note my first load development was getting about 1-1/4" with similar loads until I noticed the forend was pressing against the left side bottom of the barrel. Weatherby states on there website that pressure is okay on the forend of their lighter barrels. I scrapped that and free floated it by removing that pressure point on the barrel. All the best.

I am using very, very slow burners for the 110-120 grain bullets, and it works well.
My powders of choice are: Retumbo, VV N570, VV N24N41, and [obsolete now] IMR5010
I still have several pounds of the latter powder, and it gives great accuracy and
consistently stellar velocities. Dave.

I’ve got a couple .257s and had a third for awhile. Only the last one is a Vanguard; the others were a 700 LSS and a Mark V.

The first loves 100 grain Ballistic tips. 100 grain TSXs and IMR 4831. The NBTs are great for jerking the ground out from things; we used to fill trucks with deer in the early CWD days. I never developed a load specifically for the LSS since it shot the afor mentioned load so well.I traded to a guy that wanted it more than I did.

The last one is a Laserguard that for some reason known only to rifles didn’t like the 100 grain NBTs but loved the 115s, 110 gr Accubonds and 100 gr Scirrocos. Used those loads culling fallows and red deer with great results. The Swifts are penetrating bastards, and killing a couple with one shot got to be a bit of a game. Most of the Vanguard loads were with H1000 and H4831 because of its Down Under availability. 7828 works good too.

Without.looking, i wonder if Ken Water's " Pet Loads" actually have any. I have a.copy, if your interested, i could look and send you screenshots? PM me.

Just read a above post. If you use trailboss, remember, its light and bulky "cherrios", not to be compressed.

I have "Pet Loads" too, problem is it's so old a lot of the bullets and powders are obsolete or discontinued

I loaded up a ladder test the H4350 and 110 TSX's, just waiting for somewhere to run them over the chrono...
