Tagged... I am coming and pay the fee as soon as details are posted! Just a new guy excited about not having to go stateside to see or participate in an event. I read last years thread and I guess I better start working on my dope charts.

yes ....due to being held at CFB Petawawa ranges the only calibres allowed on that range are

22LR ,38 , 9mm , 40 , 303 , 308 , 5.56 , 7.62x39 , 7.62x54R

338 Lapua magnum is normally allowed on these ranges but for this competittion it is not allowed .

One would think there would be a way to get other calibers approved since most other DND ranges in the province allow other calibers.

The answer is no to all questions about other calibres being used ...it is what it is .
ONLY the calibres listed are approved on the ranges in Petawawa .

Sorry but is seems odd that all other bases are based off the ballistic of the caliber but Pet is specific to the exact caliber... Correct me if I am wrong on this. Because of this I will not be coming most likely.

Each range is approved for specific calibres, sometimes they make sense sometimes they don't. It's all together possible that a range could allow. 50 cal Bmg but not allow. 22LR
It's paperwork.

Having spent some time attempting to get more calibers added to the range don't even bother. Petawawa range control is filled with a large group of narrow minded idiots.
according to them all the other CF ranges are doing it incorrectly. Don't even attempt to make sense of it. It will end in you head hurting and the desire to punch something.

It really is ridiculous.

I need to attend this year.

I don't give the caliber restrictions a moments thought. I certainly don't consider the hosts "idiots". You can't organize any shooting competition without several people complaining that the rules don't suit them. - I say that from personal experience, and it always seems to be the people who haven't hosted an event in their life. This is an opportunity for them to take the leadership and initiative to do just that, but those types are always "too busy".

Good job for the Petawawa Gun Club putting the effort into this.

I'm not talking about the people running it. I shoot at the club regularly. I shot last year as well.
but trust me trying to shoot at the club on a regular basis with the ridiculous caliber restrictions is very frustrating

Damn wish I could come. I only have plan jane hunting rifles in the above calibers. I would like to take my long range rig out but its not allowed. Maybe the sectional density is too high on the 6.5mm bullets and they are afraid it will pierce through the mound LOL
