Petawawa Gun Club Presents.. The Sharpshooter Competition

True enough. That being said we have shooters from all over ontario from barrie toronto ottawa and some out even farther :)

Got our room booked and started prepping brass. Looks like at least 3 Bordon shooters are coming. Will be nice to get on another base to shoot with an interesting course of fire.
Can we see the targets you will be using?
Ryan

How many rounds do you think it will take to do the matches and how does it take to get to Petawawa from Toronto.

Hey Guy, I can assure you no one has shot this match yet because it's something I have put together myself for the first time. This will be the first of hopefully more to come long range competitions that has a next to nothing entree fee and a chance for both new shooters and experienced shooters to hit up the range together and have a good time along with some prizes along the way.

To answer your question about the caliber. I'll try to explain it to the best of my knowledge, however if someone from the club cares to correct me on it please feel free.

When it come to using a military range. Range control has a report to fill out for environmental reasons. (I. E. the amount of led that has been put into the birms) Therefore after every range. The range safety officer is required to fill out the amount of rounds fired from each caliber. The calibers that are allowed on the range have been templated for that specific range. What this means is, they have all of the data of those calibers for the environmental companys contracted to collect all of the data with regards to led and such.
When it comes to military ranges. You can't even as so much use clay pigeons unless you have what i'll call "environmental data sheet" on them, and they are deem safe from certain chemicals and such.

The term templated from what i've gathered means specifically too. and not UP to. So because the range is templated for 338 Lapua. This doesn't mean any round that is smaller then the 338 is allowed.
The reason I believe they don't have the template for lets say 260. Is for the simple fact that it is not a military round. And up until not to long ago. Civilians have not shot on military ranges for this to come into question.

This all being said. I am just a member of the gun club and this may all just be speculation on my part. I may be uninformed. I was simply giving a list of calibers for the range that our allowed and have accepted it.

For all of the advantages of this range such as shooting 600yrds, low fees for membership and the ability to shoot in the prone along with 29 other shooters at one time. The downfalls of calibers is something we just have to accept.

Hopefully this answers your question. And if I'm wrong about it. Hopefully someone corrects me :)

Thanks for the reply. I was just asking as it seemed weird that it was a range demand as the ORA shoots at military ranges and those fellas shoot all sorts of different and custom rounds. Anyhow thanks for the info and it gives me another reason to build that 223 I have been thinking about for a while.

Damn, this looks like it's gonna be good! Wish I was a little closer...

Please be sure to post pics when it's done!
