Petersoli Kodiak Survivalist 44 Mag Double

I'm not current with what's available but I think this is the cheapest SxS unless a guy finds a used Baikal.

I think that if we want the shooting sports to survive the gun manufactures need to bring the prices down. Young shooters just starting out cannot afford these kind of prices. It is the new shooters that will keep the sport alive but not if they can't afford it.
While I agree prices are high the market is saturated with cheap guns. Most new shooters are not looking for a double rifle thats made in low numbers.

For those who can afford doubles it would be a nice fun gun that you can enjoy and shoot cheaply and often and can share with friends. 44mag in a carbine is capable of all the deer types in north america and is fine for most black bear hunting.

I always liked the Petersoli double rifle however, not chambered in the 44 magnum. I have a S&W 29-3 revolver in that cartridge, but not in a rifle. A 45-70 would be nice!
The Kodiak is chambered in 4570. Its more expensive though

I own a cheap double in 4570 and its great although the gun is kinda crude. However I have no issues using it as a club if 2 shots fail to kill what im attempting to kill.

A light weight sxs in 44 mag would be just the ticket for the style of hunting I do in thick brush where shots are close
I bought a cva single and enjoy the 44 mag in it immensely

Agreed but it does seem that prices have gone a bit crazy.

Price of firearms, in North America we are used to pay little for firearms compared to to Europe where paying multiple $1000 of dollars for a gun is normal especially in the shotgun world where $10k is kind of the entry level, but obviously we are not talking the same quality and finish as we are here in North America where we don’t value craftsmanship as much as out there and that is in everything not only guns, carpentry, cabinetmaking, cars, tools and I can keep going hahaha. $4k for a well made “boutique” gun ain’t expensive!

Cartridge doesn’t really float my boat in this platform.
But this rifle doesn’t either and it took a while to decide why.
It’s missing the exposed hammers, or, it has one too many triggers.
When I think double rifles I think in terms of history and nostalgia so exposed hammers help bring that to life in my mind.
The standard Kodiak with the hammers and a classic cartridge works for me, I don’t have one or any other double rifles but it’s one I can easily want.
But on this rifle they opted to ditch the exposed hammers and go for a more modern shotgun look.
That decision likely makes the rifle easier to pack and more robust in the field but in my mind it’s a half measure…if doing that is the plan then I would also want a single selective trigger.
And while I’m not familiar with the action I assume it would have extractors not ejectors and if I’m in this far I’d want ejectors.
If you are going to emulate a modern shotgun then go all in, my opinion, but I’d prefer the more nostalgic version.
As for the over the top price well everything is stupid expensive now and don’t forget to add the cost of the proprietary rail as it’s an extra…
