Petersoli Kodiak Survivalist 44 Mag Double

It looks great but maybe in a rifle caliber for that price. I know double rifles are expensive, but in 44mag there are better options for cheaper. This is too nice to use as a backpacker/survival gun.

Has anyone heard any ETA on these, or what the estimated price will be? I have my name on the notification email list with Marstar, but there is no expected timeline or price on that listing.

I really shouldn't buy this gun, but I also really want a double rifle that I can afford to shoot a bunch. I have seen the suggested retail price in the U.S. of ~$2800 USD, so I'd assume add $1000 at minimum to convert to CAD. That's more than I want to spend, but there's really no such thing as a cheap double rifle I suppose.

For those interested in the pricing, Marstar brought 2 in and had them for $3k on the nose, both are sold. I'll try to remember to update here with some initial impressions when I receive mine.

I had previously emailed Pedersoli inquiring about the possibility of any different chamberings but from their response it sounds like they only have plans for 44 mag currently. Apparently 45 Colt/410 was their initial attempt but then moved to 44 Magnum after having poor results with that combination chambering, which is really no surprise as the flexibility to shoot both those cartridges usually has a marked negative impact on the accuracy of both.

Was also told they used the Hornady 225gr FTX Leverevolution factory loads when developing and testing the guns, fwiw. Not the bullet I plan to shoot, hopefully I can get good accuracy with 240-300gr cast powder coated bullets. Have to order dies, brass, and bullets so I can get loading and see what kind of results I can get.

You should be able to get decent accuracy with good cast bullets to 320 gr with the 1-20" twist in that rifle. Pedersoli should make
units in 45 Colt without the the BS, 410 chamber length. That crap is fer hillbillies & swampers. :(

Hope the new rifle works out well for ye. Lookin' forward fer your results with the wee bugger. :)

Thanks. Hopefully it's pretty accurate with the cast loads I work up, not really a fan of the FTX bullets at all. 45 Colt(without the long chamber for 410 shells) would have been nice as I already load that cartridge for a couple guns, but this will be my first 44 mag, so now I need to buy cases, projectiles, and a die set. Better order those tonight as well so they are here around the same time as the gun, I'll be wanting to shoot it once it's in my hands.

Hornady gummy bullets suck. I use the 240gr xtp in my cva and its been great. I have some 300gr xtp to try as well
For 3 grand I might pick one up if enough reports are positive about grouping well with heavier bullets

I agree, the only redeeming quality of those FTX bullets is the improved B.C. they offer for lever gun use in a tubular mag, their construction is pretty flimsy.

A well constructed JSP would be pretty ideal as well if looking for penetration and expansion. I know Brobree 223 did a great video on Youtube not too long ago testing 44 Mag bullets(might have been different factory loads, perhaps some were his handloads, I can't recall) at various ranges out of a carbine length barrel, perhaps it was a Mare's Leg? Again I don't 100% recall. It was good to see all the results of the different bullets at different impact velocities from 5-150m.

He does make some good videos. He took a bear with a 44mag. Looking forward to see if he does a coach gun hunt!
As for the gummy bullets what they gain at distance they loose for up close contact. In many places where levers are the norm the shots are close. If I was expecting shots passed 150 yards id bring something that shoots alot flatter than a traditional lever gun

Why be a gentleman trying to survive 🤔🤔🤔
I just like the platform(at least in concept, will have to see how much I like the gun in reality), the naming they gave it is my least liked thing about it I think.

I don't see what isn't to like about a double rifle that is somewhat economical to shoot, that can still be used to hunt medium game at close range. At ~6 lbs it's light enough to carry in the woods. Yeah, I'd probably have preferred a more powerful cartridge, but I'll shoot it a lot more in 44 mag compared to if it were chambered in a larger, less economical to reload for cartridge, I have enough guns chambered like that already.

I see this as a similar use case as my Rossi 92 in 45 Colt.

I exclusively use the Hornady 265gr FTX at ~1900fps in my Traditions Outfitter G3 and get remarkably consistent 1” groups @100yds. I seat the bullet out just about .100in which gives me a couple grains more capacity and brings things closer to the lands. I have a supply of 300 XTPs on hand as well but have yet to experiment with them.
Single shot rifles are generally my firearm of choice, but these doubles that come along from time to time always intrigue me.

I couldn't get near that velocity with published loads im sure but I couldn't get a lipstick bullet to stay together.
