Petition to stop the CBSA from stealing your folding Knives!

This change in policy is a clear case of discrimination against people with disabilities. If there are cases where having a fixed blade knife is not an option and only a folding blade is. Then the policy would be discriminating against people that are missing or have a non-functional hand if, they are not able to open other folding knife. One might say that they are violating their human rights as spelled out in our charter of human rights and freedoms.

Should you plead this up to the supreme court and win, all it would do is allow that person with said disability to have that knife. Kinda like you can easily forbid dogs from a restaurant but service dogs are still allowed.

At the risk of sounding like a broken record, it is an awesome show of support to have almost 7500 signatures on this petition! But.... and I’ll say it again, the petition itself is unlikely to have any lasting results. All that is guaranteed is that the petition get registered into the official record in the day the sponsoring MP presents it to parliament.

The real chance we have at success is the court challenge, which sadly has only 153 donators thus far. Just 2% of the number of signatures on the petition... if everyone that signed the petition gave even just 5 or 10 bucks the funding for the lawsuit would be in place in no time at all.

Please see the second link in Wanstalls original post for information about the court challenge and how to find the gofundme page. CGN rules prohibit me from posting a link to it here.

Thanks for the reminder Kruasb.....
Money talks!

$25US plus tip donated.

The liberal government doesn't care and neither does the CBSA, we all know this petition will go nowhere. The liberals have the majority and they simply do not have to do jack sh\t about it....and trust me they won't!

Write to your MP and the public safety minister

For what it's worth, I said "#### it" and ordered 3 Spyderco's in January from Knife Center after this rule was circulated.

An Endura, Paramilitary 2 and a Delica, worth about $400 CDN. It was opened by CBSA and then sent on it's merry way. They are fairly tight when they're new, maybe that had something to do with it.

Lucky you, I ordered a $45WE knife Eschaton, number 11/700, and its been with the CBSA for 3 weeks.
I'm not getting it...

Lungorthin, go to the CBSA website and file a complaint outlining your issue with the appro legislation of legal knives. If you file a complaint online, a superintendant will get it and they have to respond to your complaint but only if it is online. If you call the border or any of that crap, your complaint will go nowhere. The minute you put it in writing that changes things. Everyone should be doing this when it comes to customs and their importations. Supt's HATE to answer complaints. Especially outline the fact that you have made a legal to purchase item in Canada and that you are a taxpayer. They are public servants and they have to answer lawful complaints. Just be tactful in your writing of the complaint. This will get things moving...depending on what part of the country you are in, there is a backlog at the mail centres. But this is even more of a reason that people should be complaining. That is not your problem and nothing like this should ever be held up.

As for the petition...signed.

cheers

I'll give it a shot. But on their website, an appeal/review says it'll take approx 236 business days... Yikes.
