PGW 2015 Western Canada F-Class Championship (WCFCC) - July 1-4, 2015

I had to go on the 6br forum to get the national date answered, apparently the DCRA website can't post the date for f-class only. wink wink

??

They've been on the website for a couple of months. Course of fire is done and will be published shortly, and the entry forms should be up on the website in the next week or so.

Are spectators allowed?

Yes - we'd only ask that you do not be a distraction to those participating ... lots of shooters are willing to talk about competitive shooting, equipment, etc., but generally the bigger the match, the more focused people are on the match itself and they are less able to free the time up to talk about it ... same for those running the match ... bring your eye/ear protection and have a good time. Unfortunately as a spectator sport, it leaves a lot to be desired - if you are into it, it's a lot of fun!

Cathy at DCRA says they are not taking memberhsips for 2015 until AFTER THE BEGINNING OF APRIL

so wait until after that to call or send your info to them, say April 6th first thing in the AM to get her week rolling

We in Alberta might have to come up with a better way of dealing with DCRA membership. As we no longer use the CF Calgary/Sarcee ranges, there has been less focus on DCRA membership requirements within the APRA (AFRA now). Full membership is generally required for competing at the Nationals in Ottawa and on National Teams. We're in a situation where we've been dealing with this individually, but with the large numbers of Alberta shooters now involved in international shoots, we may need to step back and consolidate at a PRA level, so that we are not overwhelming the DCRA with individual needs. Something to be worked on within ...

I have one question, why do we have mixed teams for the Western's (2 FO + 2FTR) when everywhere we go internationally we shoot team independently, i.e., the team is made up of 4 FO or 4 FTR shooters?

It would be nice to have this changed, allowing up to 8 teams, one for each discipline (FO + FTR) from each Western province (BC, AB, SK and MB).

since we have a while before they start taking new memberships if we knew what info they need everyone could just send the extra money when registering and then just send one cheque to them when registration is complete

caveats a. do not want glen to have more work than necessary with different classes of DCRA memberships and

b. I never got my membership card or number for the las 2 years (not that it matters but I have no actual proof other than a copy of the e-mail)

just trying to help, not sure that it did

maybe to allow the lesser shooters like myself to be on a team, otherwise just like in grade school I would never be chosen

and on the team thing, I am sad to report apparently I am on a team (not sure 2 of the other 3 know I was chosen yet) ; < )

When you have full teams, there wouldn't be enough shooters to have that many teams. If we were to have all F Open and F TR teams then we would only compete against 2 or 3 other teams. What fun is that? Much better to mix the teams and put all the teams in the same competition, this way there are 8 teams competing together.
Keep in mind the US matches have 200-300 competitors, not 50.
Cheers

This is the same argument I had here in Chilliwack for last years Westerns. IMHO, the mixing of F-O and F-TR makes team shooting a beer league team event that is an afterthought to be shot after the serious (individual) shooting is done. I would much prefer shooting either F-O or F-TR in the teams even if the result is limited teams and trophies. If we want to promote team shooting then that should be done first in the schedule and the individual's second.

Keith,

Next year is the SPRA's turn to host. Change the team shooting arrangements for 2016.

If we are going to develop team shooting faster and better, we need matches with separate FTR and F Open only teams.

Mixed teams don't do much to enhance the training.... or develop this part of the sport.

If there isn't enough separate teams per se, offer a handicapp to the FTR teams and that will level the scores. Say, 2 points per shooter per relay for FTR - or 8 points per relay or something like that.

Then you have a gross score winner and a net score winner. Simple

FWIW all team shooting at Nationals (and at Easterns) will be done as teams of 4 x F-TR or 4 x F-Open (anything other than 4 x F-TR). In fact at Nationals there will be teams of 6 (shooters + captain and coach).

Jefferson, and this is the misunderstanding about the benefits of team shooting. The best team shooters are those that have consistent and accurate gear, can follow directions AND be reliable in where they put their bullet. They do not need to know anything about wind reading.

If we want to develop team shooting to the levels of other countries, we need to put good shooters with good wind readers as coaches. Then let them learn how to work together.

I had the pleasure to score a team in the US where the wind coach was superb and they had a truly new shooter to F class. That person obviously knew how to shoot and had a good rifle, but was coached through everything from setting up the rifle, to the process of F class (don't think he had done this more then a couple of times). The wind coach took this shooter to one of the highest scores for their team on that relay.... almost a clean score at 1000yds in some strong gusty winds.

No one on my team scored as well....
