PGW Coyote feedback

Jerry, you're most definitely a voice of experience in this field, I'd love to hear more of your thoughts.

You had asked for a 5x5 rounds on a target, very likely I'm not understanding your question.

Give me a PM or email if you want to chat further. Some get fixated on a point of view and feel that every post is about that point of view when often, it isn't.

And given how heated (and often times, personal) these chats seem to get, not worth my time sharing my experience here. Besides, it is pointless to have a debate when others want an argument....

Ultimately, you decide on the level of performance you want and need.... and how you are going to judge your gear. There used to be some norms on how to quantify things which has gone by the wayside these days.

No matter, this is all for fun and games... so enjoy

Jerry

Yes, KT, in his various posts, on multiple forums both here and the US, only seems to want to start an argument, disparage other members or complain about most Canadian manufacturers other than his friends. Seems to be his style over the past years. I also get tired of the nonsense and rarely pay attention his s**t anymore.

You don't have to believe me. Here's what Mike Miller says, former national FTR member of the US team and police sniper:

To illuminate some of the back story of what Mike is saying in his quote, he used to be a big time naysayer of the TacOps system and the accuracy claims. Like you, he couldn't believe that a rifle could be built to shoot factory ammo with 1/4 MOA accuracy or better. Lot's of drama in the earlier years on some forums over it. Mike Miller was turned into a believer.

I have shot several 1/4 groups with my friend's TacOps F51 with its 20" barrel using FGMM. Not every time but several groups in one afternoon.
The test target that comes with it and the accuracy claim is for 3 shot groups, not five.
it's a great rifle but not my cup of tea!

It's interesting this debate over the ideal twist rate without any mention of the expected muzzle velocity.

Idealizing twist rate is achieved through a balance of bullet weight... meaning length and the muzzle velocity. Since muzzle velocity is a factor, by default, so is barrel length, since that will affect bullet speed. Usually about 30 FPS per inch of barrel.

The faster you push a bullet, the slower the twist rate is required to be. Conversely the slower you push a bullet the faster the twist rate needs to be.

So quibbling about the perfect twist rate without bringing muzzle velocity into the discussion is a bit short sighted.

Sure if we are talking 308, we have a certain velocity range expected... but that's a range that could easily favor either a 10 or 11.25 twist rate.

A guy who wants to maximize brass life with light loads (or short barrels) is best served with the 1:10, but a guy who loads hot (or likes a long barrel) would not be wrong to favor the 1:11.25

But then again, that depends on the exact bullet being selected, meaning the length, and the actual muzzle velocity selected.

Shooting is all about balance and compromise and you just need to play into your preferred strategy.

Bottom line is that a little too much spin is always better than not quite enough spin.

I think there's plenty of great Canadian companies. MDT, Insite, PGW, Tangent Theta, etc. MDT has been really killing it lately especially, they are very responsive to market demands and put out a quality product. The products I'm critical of are due to personal experience, or experience of those I know first hand around me, and have caused a lot of $$, time and frustration to correct. Sometimes it's Canadian brands, sometimes American brands or other origin. To imply that I complain about Canadian manufacturers "other than my friends" is disingenuous and untruthful. I don't want shooters to be setup for frustration and disappointment. I have nothing to gain no matter what product anyone buys on here - I don't sell any products so your not lining my pockets. This is an expensive sport, and when you pay a bunch of money for a product that doesn't work right, it absolutely sucks.

You also paint a picture of me being completely disparaging on forums. Also untruthful. CGN is the only board that seems to be contentious, as you have people pulling in completely different directions (usually due to coming from different disciplines and getting their feet wet in a new one to them). I'm not afraid to call balls and strikes as I see them, and that seems to rub people the wrong way. The advice on this forum is sometimes completely counter to the collective experience of 10-15+ years of the sport in the US, which is only going to setup future shooters for frustration. Go to a PRS match and mention CGN and see what kind of reactions you get (it's generally not pretty)...

At the end of the day I'm a nobody on the internet who's happened to spend a lot of money and time on certain shooting disciplines shooting over North America. It's your choice if you want to listen to me, also your choice if you want to get offended because I have a view that's different then yours. I've never had an infraction on this site or any other, so my content can't be as bad as you are trying to paint it, I play within the rules. Some of you guys would get absolutely eaten alive on other shooting forums I know of that have a lot greater collective experience in shooting and a lot lower threshold for stupidity (and some CGN members do and get absolutely destroyed).
