Just in time for my birthday, I received my new PGW Timberwolf complete with Tangent Theta 315M optics mounted with ATRS rings.

Anyone who pays attention to this site is probably quite familiar with the Timberwolf. She’s quite beautiful and saying that I’m happy with her is… an understatement. And if I had just ordered the Timberwolf, I probably would have received her a lot earlier.

The Tangent Theta is the new guy on the block. As more and more people receive their orders, we’ll start to see if it was worth the wait. So far, I’m not disappointed. There’s just something about top quality glass. All praise aside, Tanθ is among that top quality. Anyone who has looked through S&B or Swarovski knows… you get spoiled at not having to peer through poor glass. Now where Tanθ places in that group is yet to be determined… and it probably won’t be by me. But let’s start.

I took my new rig out to a little swath of land to make sure she was zeroed and to have a little fun that I’ll get to. Normally when I zero a new set up I’ll bore sight, take a shot at 25 m just to make sure I’m close enough that I’m sure to hit paper once at 100 m. Then I’ll move back to 100 m, take at least three shots to a group and adjust the turrets accordingly.

That didn’t happen with this beautiful rig. While bore sighting, the McMillan A5 was so stable, and the Tanθ was so clear that I was confident enough to go straight to 100 m. I took my first shot. I clearly noted that it printed an inch right and half an inch low. I wasn’t let down in my confidence… Then I took my second shot. (Before I go on… I’d like to say that I have no delusions of being all that good. And I also know that two shots don’t nearly make a group… and even a horribly loose rig can print two rounds nice and tight by pure luck). My first thought was that I missed. But my second thought was that there was no way I could have missed. The rig shoots SO smooth, and I felt so good about that shot, and the little hole an inch and a quarter from my aim looked just a little bit wider. So I had to run up for a closer look…

So I adjusted 0.3 mils left and 0.2 mils up. Another group of three. Adjusted 0.1 mil back down. And my last group of three were bang on. The rig was easy to shoot… especially considering I was a wreck. I was smiling from ear to ear, giving a thumbs up to my pregnant wife sitting enclosed in our truck behind me (reducing noise for the baby) between every shot. I was definitely distracted. And I was excited with the thought of my upcoming target. Watermelons are in season at the grocery store.

Well… That’s all. I’ll try to get better at writing reviews. If anyone would like to know any details about the Tanθ, let me know and I’ll do my best to transfer that knowledge to you. If you’re in the Ottawa area, feel free to have a look at her. Here are a few more pictures.

Great looking rifle and very nice pictures.

Tangent/Premier/Elcan do make really solid piece of glass.

Do wish I could afford to have so much cash tied up in one rifle - definitely jealous :)

Never said I could afford it either ;)

I don't think I'll be buying another rifle in quite a while.

Congrats! Nice stick!

What color is your metalwork? Looks grey instead of the typical tan color.

The metal work is a "bead blasted stainless steel". It matches the tan camo well enough, and if I ever want to change the stock, it'll go with anything else a lot better than tan would.

Niiiiice! Little surprised you have the 4 port brake, mine has the 6 port brake. Its a beast for sure, dont have too much fun, ammos not cheap x.x" but soooo worth it!

Very nice bro! Glad you got the rifle I know you waited for a long time. Love the finish on the metal!

Nice rifle man. I ordered something recently from PGW that's going to really piss off the wife if she ever finds out, lol! I'm still scratching my head over whether I have made the proper life choices with this purchase, and I am definitely sure I cannot afford what I bought.

Yup, same here, a few weeks and its here. I wonder how many wives PGW has pushed over the edge?
