PGW Timbewolf pros and cons? looking for opinions

^^^ Ross, I think that's a great idea. It would give you an opportunity to promote your business and hopefully drive some business through the doors. Have someone document the whole event and make a video of it for the rest of us to see.

Man, I'd love to attend that if I had the chance. Hell, I'd make a trip out of it and I'd probably convince myself to order a rifle at the same time. lol

Of course Ross you realize that only fans of the PGW rifles will show up to such an event like that. The naysayers won't show and continue to bad mouth your product. I hope you do that. I'll be there.

Thanks but the idea is not to promote the business but to promote truth about what we do. We have plenty of business all over the world however the CDN civilian market is of great importance to us as it is the market that allowed us to grow our business into what it is today. Like any company it is important to remember your roots and where you came from and as noted earlier we have not always been perfect...

Only downside to it is the price.

For 6-8k you can get a Barrett 98B in .338 and put a nice optic on it vs just getting the gun. But hey if you have the money giver and have fun.

What I struggle to understand is the animus shown by some members towards certain brands - in this case PGW - without explaining exactly why they have concluded that the product is sub-par or wanting in some regard. For that matter I have equal difficulty in understanding the so called 'fan-boys' of particular products. I've written a number of reviews on this sub-forum and on others and not surprisingly (since I bought the darn things ) it is usually the case that I really like some aspects of a product but am not so fond of others and with a high end rifle the things I like the least tend to be nit-picky, personal, things which, of course, if you buy a custom rifle you can overcome at time of ordering and design. Case in point: I wasn't a huge fan of the PGW 8 round magazine so when I got Rick at ATRS to build me a custom I went with ATRS bottom metal that accommodated the AICS 10 rounders.

To dump all over PGW ( or TRG, AI or ATRS or other quality factory or custom ) is (a) stupid, (b) does a disservice to the manufacturer and (c) does a disservice to fellow shooters who are looking for quality input on a potential purchase. Write a proper, balanced, review or STFU.

Dirteemax thank you for all your comment! If i ever want to build a custom rifle I'll shot you a pm. But at this point I don't need you to keep restating your opinion over and over on this thread. I already have a PGW rifle and just wanted to hear what other owner liked or disliked. The customer service Ross gives is worth the extra cash hands down!

Two days before my big elk hunt last fall I had a trigger group failure in my Timberwolf. This happened of thanks giving weekend. I email PGW to see how long to get parts as I was going hunting for a three week hunt, and had less then 72 hour to get my gun fixed. Well to my surprise after I set the email about 7 min. later I got a reply. Let me remind you this happened on thanks giving day. Ross went over and above to help me get the problem sorted out. was willing to overnight me a new trigger group. In the end he talked me through repairing my rifle over the phone my self! The customer service Ross and all PGW staff give their customers is worth every penny they charge for there rifles!!!
I'd like to see any other Gun builder Big or small give the same customer service that Ross gave me.

I too can speak volumes for PGW customer service. To me, as mentioned before, that is worth the extra coin. It means a lot when you call up the guy who actually made your rifle and supports it 100%.

This whole one brand is better than another crap has got to end guys. I come to these threads looking for informative info and insight into my favourite sport, instead I get a bunch (not all) of whiny keyboard commandos with biased and uninformed opinions. There are some great members here who I have learned a lot from and hope to continue doing so for a long time to come.

Maybe we can start a sub-forum for people who actually wanna talk seriously about rifles and not start a #### measuring contest every time a thread starts they don't like.

Rant off. Mods lock er up.

I have never actually tried to phone PGW. Never wanted one of there rifles because I feel there are better factory and custom rifles that can be bought for less money. I guess you have not caught on to that fact yet.

Oh, by the way. I did not claim that they did not heat treat there rifles. I said that a person I know went to a PGW open house and from what he gathered and was told they do not completely heat treat the entire raction they just do a surface hardening. I than asked the question, are they heat treated or not, what is the process, just to clarify. I then received a short, rude reply with a picture that did not give any detail compared to the detail that most all other high end rifle manufactures put rite on there webpage.

Absolutely no way to know what you said as you delete your previous posts......Always...

The point of a forum is education, debate, fun.....if your posts are informative, why delete them? Leave them for other members (new and old) to learn from...

You cannot imagine the pm's I get about my gun room from other members who want to build their own, I've even went to a local members home and helped him plan and design it...

Should I delete all my posts so no one else can benefit?

Now I just want a PGW lol. I just wish it was made in .223 also. They are one amazing rifle. And in house products always put a smile on my face. The brand seems to he getting everything right from what I see on here a lot of the time.

Customer service is huge to me. All I hear are good things. I just hope that PGGW doesn't get sucked into the flame pit which some members are trying to make for them. Brush them off and look at what you have accomplished and the product you have proudly and successfully created.

The product itself I have never seen in person or shot (can only dream) but I can see by people's reviews that all of the rifles made are top notch. If I had the cash it would be my number two buy. Accuracy international is my first (sorry PGW :) I love my British firearms).

But I still want a PGW soooo bad.

They can build you whatever you want. You just need the $$$.

.338 lapua,
Timberwolf

what are other people liking or dis liking?

Back on track! PGW Timberwolf .338LM Folder with 45 MOA day/night rail

Pros:
-Accuracy was excellent with hand loads but still very good with factory although I have only fired 15 rounds of factory at 600m hand loads out to 1700 yards.
-Folder locks up very solid
-Pistol grip is adjustable fore and Aft.
-Safety is easy to reach
-Action has machined interface with scope rail for stress free mating.
-Really like the ergo, look and feel of folder especially the smooth rounded underside.
-Fit and finish very good super solid.
-Effective well made muzzle brake
-Adjustable cheek weld on folder locks up solid
-Bolt firing pin assembley tooless removal.

Cons
-I would prefer stainless steel barrel not really a big deal.
-To lock the folder you need to depress the button to disengage then release to lock
again not a big deal.

The cons are just my personal preference not really an issue and may have beed designed or selected this way for a purpose. The Timberwolf is definately my favourite out of all the rifles I own. I also have the LRT-3 in CADEX chassis although I really like it the Timberwolf is still my favourite:D

By rsp1761 :To finish the day we can review the amount of actual in service Military weapons we have produced as well as the accessories we have design built for clients such as the USMC on a sole source basis....

;);)

So to summarize this thread.. the OP wanted pros and cons.. Some guy comes on here.. with no first hand knowledge ####s all over the product gets flamed.. defends himself still adding nothing of what the OP wants... goes and deletes his posts (a clear sign that he was wrong).. still defends himself ... Not sure how Canadian Tire got into the thread.. But I guess the insinuation that any monkey could buy good parts and slap them together and make a gun as good as PGW's..

What I got was that some guy doesn't like PGW because he thinks he can build them better or because they aren't to the tolerances he expects.. He calls them ugly (I guess he never heard that beauty is in the eye of the beholder).. I love this forum for the haters.. They are very funny and can't see.. I guess they would rather slag a product then give decent criticism based on real knowledge, there are so many that grasp a single fact or perceived fact and keep it going for months or years...

For the OP.. I've never fired a Timberwolf..

However I have fired a 308 Coyote.. I was impressed with the build, the rigidity of it. It felt good.. and it was far more accurate then I could take advantage of..

And this is the reason i own PGW Rifles. Good honest common sense.

LOL... You still don't get it..

I never said I was an expert. You seem to believe you are... (if I've learned anything in 50 years that no matter what I think I'm knowledge about there is someone that knows more)...

Never said I built rifles, Engines maybe, computers definitely.
I don't shoot anything beyond 200 yards these days don't have access to range longer then that.. Your published experiences involve 2 unnamed friends which apparently gives you licence to to make comparisons and criticisms.. You don't even suggest you ever shot these friends firearms.. Your statements are that they didn't like them.. You don't even state why unless that is the stuff you deleted. .

However when you start talking about the best that is such a subjective thing.. The best for what??.. Evidently the Timberwolf was the best for the CF for their purposes..
You state they are ugly.. Guess what, it too is subjective..

As for what my experiences shooting 20 rounds thru a borrowed Coyote with factory ammo were, They are of zero value to the OP as he was looking for input of those who have shot the timberwolf... Hence my less then detailed info...

How about this....This summer we will host an open house here with a BBQ pig roast, refreshments and run demos on what we make and the particularly un-educated ones on this forum can have their hands held as we go from one CNC centre to the next explaining what we make and how it is done?

Now that would be awesome. :D

Just a shop tour would be worth the 400km drive to Winnipeg.

Maybe then we can book some range time and take out more than one type of ammo and see if it actually shoots in the gun???

If only I lived a little closer...................I would love to see the facilities and see a T-Wolf going through production.......
