Was wondering can the detachable magazine models be converted back to hinged floorplates or have the receiver rails been widened to make room for the magazine? The 3rd bolt under the mag release is a PITA.

the feed rails have been cut out to accept the magazine. when changing back to the box magazine with a hinged floorplate they may or may not work depending on caliber.

How often do you remove the action from the stock? I have seen rifles where that has not been done in 20 years.

Figured as much ...not my gun but lost mags are all but unobtainable.A 98 mauser don't need fixing.

I've just checked the feed rails on a PH 1200C and a Zastava M70 with hinged floorplate in comparison. I don't think the feed rails on the 1200C were modified.

Intersurplus has PH 98 triggerguards with hinged floor plates.

Yes I was eyeballing them

I put one of those PH98 engraved triggerguards on one of my sportererd 98 receivers, standard length and if fit very well.

You should measure the distance between your receiver tang and ring screw to make sure it's a standard length, rather than M48 length. I believe PH used both lengths??

They also have a very nice detachable magazine trigger guard for standard length 98 actions for the same price as the PH engraved guards.
