I thought it might be nice to "Show and Tell" our 2009's hunting rifle aquisitions. I wonder how many of us follow Tikka, Ruger, Rem, the new FN Winchester, etc...

They don't have to be new rigs. Just new to you :)

Ruger Hawkeye 308 Winchester
Well I couldn't resist a brand new Ruger Hawkeye in 308 Winchester. I had Elwood Epps install open sites. I started off with a Rem 798 but ended up sending it back because they sent me the rifle in the wrong calibre. It was a good thing too because the 798 was a terrible. Milling quality was HORRIBLE - worse than some war time mausers with rough grinding marks.

So, I decided to go with the Hawkeye - I love Rugers. CAN'T RESIST a nice mauser action in a walnut stock.

Well I couldn't resist a brand new Ruger Hawkeye in 308 Winchester. I had Elwood Epps install open sites. I started off with a Rem 780 but ended up sending it back because they sent me the rifle in the wrong calibre. It was a good thing too because the 780 was a piece of crap. Milling quality was HORRIBLE! I decided to go with the Hawkeye - I love Rugers. CAN'T RESIST a nice mauser action in a walnut stock. This rifle shoots like a house on fire but there is a bedding issue that will need rectifying this winter so I'm not 100% satisfied. Still, she's a keeper.

Nice rifle, but what's the point of havng them install iron's and then mount a scope?

Nice Model 71!!! Here's a photo of one of my 'new' hunting rifles I acquired this past year. I plan to take it deer hunting this coming fall. It is an original Winchester Model 1876 .45-60 made in 1886. Gives me 5-shot groups of less than 2" at 100 yards.

Beautiful 71!

Is it a coincidence that the favourite "new" rifles are largely old Winchesters? ;)

Here's mine from last year, a 270 I have wanted for a long time. The Edge stock is ordered, and it will be my latest (and last) all-arounder.

Have been looking for a Winchester 94 "Timber Carbine" in .444 for the last few years and was presented this one for sale by a fellow CGN'er. Added a Decelerator pad and XS ghost ring sights. Thanks J_c_P_n_ for the beautiful gun and new friendship. This gun carries and points so naturally it makes a Marlin Guide Gun feel like your carrying a 2x4!

Thats a beautiful 71 Johnn !
Mine is identical except for the recoil pad....it still has the ( OUCH ) steel butt-plate.

When I first 'saw' this 71, I kinda' wondered about the recoil pad, even though it is Winchester. I've gathered and downloaded a fair amount of hard copy info on the 71 and some of the deluxe models did come with one that was 'factory fitted' so I believe it to be original.

The guy I got it from at a local gun show, was also kind enough to pick me up a set of original Bow quick detachable sling swivels, that on the 71 are a bit of a bastard size. One day I wouldn't mind picking up a sling that some came with which was apparently called 'NRA improved shooting sling'.

Years ago I had a standard model that I foolishly sold and started kicking my butt the day after for doing so. This one's a keeper.

For the previous one, basically all I loaded for it was the Hornady 200gr FP's, a good supply of which I now have, again. In addition to a sizeable quantity of new unprimed brass I also lucked into a few boxes of Winchester ammo, a box of Remington, a 'supply' of Barnes originaly in 220gr and 250gr. Just recently I acquired two boxes of Winchester 200gr Silver Tip bullets and also I have a couple of weights of cast bullets from a local guy. The rifle will be used.

Also, it's my favorite lever gun/caliber combo. A model 71 Winchester Deluxe in 348WCF.
As much as I like my Marlins...the 71 Winnie in 348 will always be a favourite.

Yours is very Nice for sure !

Here was one of my purchases in 09...I guess my favourite score of 09. And it will line up on a deer this Fall;)
Another 336 SC Marlin in 35 remington.Circa 1959:cool:

wait...7!

my favorite of the bunch, a Sendero SF in 7mm SAUM. Kinda project gun at the moment. No stock, no scope, no rings, no bases, no bolt shroud or firing pin, no bottom metal....just a barreled action

here's a pic of it before I tore it up
