Definitely M1917's and Landsdowne Park is the exhibition grounds in Ottawa that was at its peak in the 30's and 40's. Durign the war (WW2), the miltary used it as a parade ground and for drill.

Landsdown, at that time, was actually called the "Canadain National Exhibition Grounds".

So CNBTC might be something like "Canadian National Basic Training Course"

You can see the red band here, I made the pict into Black & white.

The strap reminds me very much of the Gas mask bag that was for sale when I was a kid, it was side slung and general issue early in the war.

Many of the Canadian surplus M1917s went to Denmark after WW2 where they were used by the Danish Home Guard. A bunch came back to Canada in the early 1990s as part of the Danish Garand/M1917 disposal sale. Like their Garands, the Danes maintained them to a high standard. The Danish rifles can be ID'd by a few things incl the rifle s/n stamped on the bottom of the buttstock, a s/n on the bolt, and perhaps a notch milled in the rear of the receiver ring. The Danes also modified some front sights to use a vertical roll pin instead of the blade.

It is interesting that the Cdn. band has .30-06 on it. The Brits referred to the US .30 rifles as .300".
12TC = number 12 Training Center?
