Hi guys I am figuring out how to post pictures from Photobucket and think i "got it" now. The pictures are from the 2013 Kubel Korp USA annual family reunion in Pioneer Ohio, generally we have about six to eight VW166 schwimmwagens, about a dozen or so Type 82 Kubels, umpteen "murdercycles" (Zundap/BMWs) and something tracked like a RSO or like this year a Sd.Kfz251 made its debut after ten years work.
Here is the Sd.Kfz251 (and this is a REAL 251 not a czech OT810) next year the armour will be installed and it will look more complete
German track was to be the most over engineered track on the planet earth, here is another pic of the 251 track

Saw a nice one at the National War Museum in Ottawa as well, but no substitute for actually taking one out for a Schwimm!

1944 VW166 schwimmwagen in its element

Note the rod is used to lower the swimdrive into postion, the engine RPMs drives the prop, steering in the water is using the front tires as rudders.
Entering the water, the narrow tires are correct but the wide tires with the unique SW tread are the best thing for a 166 to claw its way up a muddy river bank. In four wheel off road a 166 will go just about anywhere, far better then a MB or GPW of WWII.

The schwimmer is equally at home on the road or in the water, and its off road capablities are a "you have to see it to believe it" great.

I better put some Kubel pictures up, after all the club is the Kubel Korps here you all go

Here is an early kubel

Same kubel from the front, and the Ford GPA, while the GPA is very nice the thing is like the Nimitz or Carl Vinson, its huge beside a schwimmwagen (more GPA pics to follow)

I will also point out that there are no "kooble kars" in any of the pictures I am posting these are all the real deal from German wartime production that the owners have lavished much time and effort to restore, and then drive. David L. the owner of the PZ grey kubel likes that lived in look for his car.
The KKUSA version of a "show and shine". My Restoration Mentor David Crompton in Michigan took his Schwimmwagen to a Porsche car show once, David took his car, as is, with dirt, mud and weeds hanging off it and parked amidst row apon row of gleaming, high end/expensive Porsches and was pretty much mobbed. A 166 (or kubel) thats not all buffed certainly has "the look" .

Getting ready for one of the trail rides, even the Mercedes 170V owner is not averse to push the limits (within reason)

One way to clean off the undercarriage.

Here is Bob G. in his Demag D7 this was one that Finland received during the war. I like the size of the D7 as its about the same as a pick up truck, and it comes with that labour intensive and unique "wet" track the Germans had such a fondness for.

Another shot taking the troops into action, well really just a trail ride.

Normandy France, summer of 1944 (nope). Road move to the ice cream place in Ohio, got to keep the troops morale up and whats better after a hard day of being strafed by Typhoons and P47s then a cold ice cream.

Arriving at the "ice cream replenishment point".

And after a day of dodging Sherman tanks, being strafed by Typhoons and P47s, nothing kick starts the morale then a ice cream followed by more trails, road drives and schwimming.

And yeah, the horn in this picture is wrong but thats been attended to years ago.
