Hi all, question - my dad has had some medical issues, so he's decided to sell a few guns he rarely uses, including a Smith and Wesson Model 41 .22 target pistol. He inherited it from a friend of his who died a number of years ago, who was the original owner. I know nothing about these guns, so I'm looking for some idea of value before I post it to the EE. Looks to be pretty minty, has one mag, various brakes/compensators, and the original cardboard box it came in. Not sure how old it is, but the serial number is 213XX if that helps. I'll post some pics once I have it in my possession.

Thanks in advance!!

EDITED - more photos in post 10

Seeing how a new one with no accessories is going for 'bout $1500, and they don't make 'em like they used to, I can see getting 2 grand for it easily.

Problem is, they aren't really what many new shooters are looking for. I have seen several priced at $700 sit a long while.

An early unit like that(~1960ish) without pictures should be arround $1000. Is the de-coker indicator still there?

More than one barrel, a good early model should bring 1000.oo or close, 1200.oo would be fair if minty, but small market, as the new guys seem to want pot metal guns these days.
Pictures will tell, and the box is a huge plus for early guns, one mag is a -, but you can still buy them, If you shoot matches, you need 2.
Think I have a orig. in stock

So it appears to be in pretty minty shape. Long barreled variant, and if the box is to be believed, dates from 1955. Anyone who knows these guns have any more thoughts based on the photos? Again, thanks in advance :)

I have bought two of these over the years, one made 1968 (with the loaded chamber indicator), one from 1982, both for $1,000, and I follow the pricing on CGN and elsewhere. i think this even older one, with the longer barrel (not necessarily better, but less common, and some people benefit from the longer sight radiue) and the extra grip, compensator and other items, would be worth more. I wouldn't be surprised to see this package priced at $1500. Unlike the other hi end classic US target semiautos (Hi Standard and Browning) you can still get parts for these, which makes them an easier buy.

The grips are poor, the other one are aftermarket target grips, the box is poor so don't really add, the original tool kit is nice, most of those seem to MIA
Pictures are not the best, is that oil on the finish?
start at about 1400.oo, if the finish has no marks on it, and you will get offers around1200.oo, than it is a case of haw bad you want to sell it. Could take a while.

Thanks everyone for their input, including a couple of members who gave me info via PM and email. I'll try to get it up on the rimfire EE this coming weekend if I have time.

Pistols go into Pistols & Revolvers section, not Rimfire, regardless of calibre, unless 12(6).
