If you found a black painted PIAT round, it is most probably a drill round (no explosives!).

no I have a fealing that this is going to end with a BIP anyways.

Thought someone would have access to the old manual that tells what the WW2 british colour codes were.

The manuals I have are all 1950 and newer NATO markings.

you should ask the guys at the citadel in Halifax, seen the book there before ,beside the piat display.

Methinks "most probably" is not a term to use around potential explosives on the side of if it is safe or not.

I used "most probably" because unless woodchopper opens the round to make sure it is empty, nobody can positively say it is inert.

there is no way I'm going to be opening up 'range scrap' to see whats inside. I have spent enough time tip-toeing arond on ranges and target areas to know what looks like UXO is usually a UXO and not your friend.

I plan on someday getting a pension

Don't the bomb disposal guys sometimes fire 50 cal rounds at unexploded ordnance? I'd try that, from a good distance.
