I plan on getting a Walther P22 next and a 1911 of some sort very shortly afterwards. I see lots of $ being spent on this hobby!

Nice Glock,

I heard about the same complains with the P22.

Get a Ruger Mark III a bit cheaper and a lot more reliable with the all steel with bull barrel.

Mine never failed so far

Walther P22 is garbage. They jam and they crack. Get something else.

Frig. All Glocks are garbage as well because I've heard of two or three that busted......and all T/C's are #### with weak barrels because a couple had the barrels banana peel....nevermind the millions that have been fine.

I'm on my third P22 and fourth P22. The first one had WELL over 10,000 rounds through it, the second had over 15,000 and the two I have now are 2 and 4000 rounds respectively....never had one crack, and in fact, never had one that jammed much either.

I'm on the hunt for a Buckmark contour, and the funny thing is that the ignorant ones on the sig forums say the Buckmark and Walther are crap, the walther guys say the browning is crap, the browning guys say the mosquito is crap, and everyone who owns something else says something else is crap.

If you like the P22, BUY IT! I've been happy with mine, as have most people who have owned them. Ask the people who actually know.....not the self appointed experts of the interweb.

That's a very exciting Glock - they all are! Congratulations. I really like the OD green Glocks, you should have lots of fun with it. ;)

Hey Scarecrow...there were 712,500 of those "pieces of crap" sold last year...find me pics of..oh.... lets say.... .025%. No, wait... Scratch that...find me examples of .005 % that have cracked, would ya? Shouldn't be too difficult...They must be EVERYWHERE!

Otherwise? Learn to take better care of your guns.

Yes, care of your guns or the slides crack, ofcourse you would know because you don't even think they crack at all. There are plenty of cases all over the place, but not everyone has the internet, or the internet and a camera. Needless to say even if it has a .025 crack rate thats .025 higher then everyone else's .22 pistol. You'd have to be an idiot or a current owner to disregard this.

To put icing on the cake, my slide cracked. As far as I can tell, the rear rails of the slide came off the back of the pistol, and when the slide moved forward again it wedged against the trigger and bent my slide upward so that it cracked, nearly in two. If my gun were the 3.4" variant (without the fake compensator on the front) the slide would have flown off the front of the gun.

Okay I am changing my opnion on the Walther P22. The slide cracked on this one.......
Well have been using this gun for while now and since the ammunition is cheap and have guests come and go have used it extensively. Like always after every visit to the range it gets a good clean up and oil. Cant say for sure how many but it has probably seen 3000 plus rounds fired through it. This weekend after 400 rounds of Remington subsonic rounds (there were quite a few of us at the range) came home and was going to start taking it down and see this crack on the slide which is metal (this has a polymer body frame). Have to take it to the store and see if they can do something to it.
Any reason someone can think what could have caused it? It did'nt fall down or was not bangged against anythings, but it did get jammed twice. Would this crack propogate further, is there a way to prevent it from?
Also the rifeling is almost non existant now and the gun was severly foiled on the inside when I was cleaning the barrel and had to go and get a scrubber to get it going before even the brush could pass through. It is clean now but am hesitant to take it to the range. Any thoughts?

Recommend CCI Minimags with the P22. Remington Golden Bullet bulk pack also works. Recommend you steer clear of the hypervelocity rounds as there have been reports of cracked slides while using hypervelocity ammo.

There have been reports of slide breakage, this is sadly true. It is my opinion that stress was caused by the installation of the roll pin that holds the extractor into place. The stress crack opens up and eventually causes catastrophic failure of the slide. Walther is aware of the problem and has made engineering changes and replaces any pistols and/or broken parts under warranty.

Now will you please STFU.

WALTHER P22 = GARBAGE.

Yes, because every single Walther P22 jams and cracks... :jerkit:

Check out the Walther section at rimfirecentral for a REAL response to your argument. Its been addressed 100 times over there.

Oh and FYI, all the broken pistols have been replaced by the factory.

So what is the general consensus over at rimfirecentral regarding the P22?

Those of you that HAVE NOT suffered a slide failure. Please go start your own p22 fan site. We can read between the lines. You're in denial ... confused. You spent hundreds more in accessories. You took gritty pictures of your oh-so-tactical p22 with the laser and silencer. Still recommending a gun that is clearly flawed. You'd make me laugh if the situation wasn't as dangerous as it is.

Looks like the same thing happening here.

Enough to convince me to look for another .22 pistol
than you should quit internet before you find pics of Kaboomed Glocks ;) which are easier to find than a cracked P22 pics...

If you want the P22 get it! but make sure to change recoil spring every 5-10K. I bet most, if not all people who had P22 fail on them didn't bother changing the springs since it's only a .22  Another member here had a slide crack after 35,000 rounds. I asked him if the changed the springs onice in a while; he didn't reply (so I took it as a no) but 35K is still a lot, many quality centerfire guns will have a similar failure as well, if not properly maintained...

Geez, the Glock 22 .40 cal I've been shooting regularly since 1995 without one hic-cup has never had a "ka-boom"... Maybe I should sent it back to Glock & demand one that will.... :D

My point was that he shouldn't dismiss a gun based on one pic he saw on the internet...;)

but yeah something must be wrong with your G22 :p
