Last years post you showed the turkey you shot.....you mentioned enie and mennie. This year to date you only shot one. Correct?

And sorry Pat does know it all, the internet said so.........

Let #2 go. As for Pat, have another...:onCrack:

I will bet there are a lot more 280 Remingtons out there than 338 Federals.
Not knowing what else is in your arsenal, might cause some to make a different choice. Is there a prize for whoever makes the 50th spot?

only 2 .308's and the .338WM right now for centrefires. Sorry, no prize.:)

In the close and bushy I'm going to break with the Page 1 opinion (yes, that's as far as I read before replying) and say 338 Fed. if it was more open country I'd say the 280 all the way but I'd like more bullet for moose (that's the kind of guy I am).

I hate to say it, but being in Ontario, you need neither goddamit!!!!! you need a 25-06 hawkeye. And it has been written, and I said so :):):)
Stop the poll. Problem solved. But since you didnt ask about a 25-06, the pro's and cons.
Pro
338 federal. Same bullets as your 338 WM, so... One bullet to get it all done at different velocities.
Con
Same bullet, but slower than the 338 WM. Why not load down the 338 WM if you want the federal? Not as cool, I know.

Pro
280. Is there really one, after all, its not a 270 :)

Con
Its a 280. Need I say more? Useless for anything but big game in most of Ont.
Personally, I'd go with the 280 if your set on one of those 2 cals. the 338 federal wont do anything either of your 308's wont do.
Im just babbling

I own both a 280 and a 338 Federal, although I haven't gotten to shoot either one ALOT yet, but I have a good idea what they do.

the 280 shoots flatter, good choice for open country with a 400 yard shot opportunity. the 338 Federal has more frontal area and bullet weight and is as good as anything you can shoot if shots are inside 300y. They both recoil the same, the 280 might be a tad less all things being equal. Both are easy to shoot well.

my vote would be for the 338 Federal. Loaded with a 185 grain TSX it doesnt give up a whole lot to the 280 for trajectory inside 350 yards, and that bullet would penetrate plenty deep for moose unless the angle was very poor :sniper:PS the 338F gains alot of internal capacity for powder when seated out past 2.8" OAL. My sako is around 2.9" and Im pushing 215 grain Sierras @ 2650 fps with H4895
