Pick of Three.....

All started when I started thinking of putting a Leupold VX-3L on my Ruger 77 to replace the VII. Then it started, the thought of a two tone rifle in black and stainless started in, and then the realization that besides a few antiques all my big game stuff is plastic and stainless.

Decided I'm going to have one wood & blued piece to actually enjoy looking at for the traditional hunting rifle nostalgia. Just bought a CZ 455 Lux .22 that is a tack driver and seems very well put together so I am leaning CZ a bit.... This is what I've come down to in choices, price point and availability at my LGS. The rifle will be in .300WM.

CZ Lux Medium 550 / Tikka T3 / Win 70 RMEF (pre 64 style) - Of the 3 which do you think is the best value for the dollar?

Thanks!

Of the three the Tikka T3 is probably the cheapest and my 30-06 is a shooter. My T3 shoulders so nice, is light, has become my go to rifle for the south province. Only issue with my T3 was that being so light, it recoiled enough for me to put a Limbsaver on it. So in a 300 WM i would add a recoil pad to the price.

Cannot speak on the other 2. If you had a chance to shoulder and check for fit all three, you could try the one that feels best. Flipping coins might work also, as there are no bad choices here.

Hands down Winchester Model 70. And I would look at the Super grade. It will be expensive once but it will be a prized possession for the rest of your life. Your grand children will be proud to inherit it and hunt with it one day. I don't think the Tikkas or CZs can compare. I do own a CZ but find the safety to be noisy and the wood is average. Good shooter though.

My 2 cents.

Model 70.

Personally, I'd go with the Winchester.

+1 on the Super Grade version.

Even though I've had problems with 3 of the past 5 FN made M70s and I guess I don't learn because I just ordered a 6th, I would recommend the M70.

M70 is probably the beat way to go... but I'm positive that you would not regret the CZ 550 either...

Consider going both ways.

I went for a brand new Winchester M70 .308 in BOTH wood and stainless. Dealer said it was the last one in Canada.
To my eye, the combination is gorgeous. (so much so, 12 months later its still BNIB)

Kinda matches my Ruger M77 hawkeye 7x57mm AND my Remy M700 7mm08, BOTH of which also are in wood and stainless.
And of course, if you ever worry about damaging the wood stocks while hunting, aftermarket composite stocks are light, weatherproof.

One of the Alberta gunshops had a mint used Win M70 RMEF in 300winmag in wood/SS a while back for $1000 ..
should'a bought it LOL.

After seeing and handling my first Supergrade a couple weeks ago I'd be hard pressed not to go down that road. It isn't as light as the Tikka, but still a beauty for hunting nonetheless. The wood and finish of the Supergrade is without a doubt better than the other two, factoring in price as well. You could save a few bucks by shopping around for a CZ with wood that appeals to you.

Model 70 gets my vote as I have used them since the early 70's. Presently own 3 of the newer FN's and never had an issue with any of them. Great quality and value for the money. You may disagree and be very happy with another brand, it is what ever floats your boat and fits you best.

Dak47 what are your thoughts on the extended magazine on the CZ Lux?
I would have to think very hard on that one even though I know the .22's shoot very tight groups.
Be it the 452, 455 etc... I do like the CZ rifle, just have a hard time getting over the uggly magazine.
The wood does draw my eye back to them everytime I see one though.
Get a CZ and buck the trend !!!!
Tight Groups,
Rob

Which is the one that fits you best? Which one do you feel most comfortable shooting?
