I'm tempted to ask you for another poll just so that we can finally have one without the LE in it!![]()
Ya, that nasty enfield. War is over. The enfield won.
Well Redrommel, I think we need to have another poll for greatest rifle of WW2
Here are the nominees:
- The MP44
- The Stg44
- The Mkb42(H)
- The MP44 with beech stock
- The MP44 mit Schnitzel
- The..."Sie werden Die verdammte MP44 selektieren!!! Sie werden nicht beleidigen Deutschland!!!"
Here is some voting info.
"The MP44 was surprisingly accurate as well, and its inline design gave it controllability even on full-auto. The concept of the StG44 was obviously carried on in the most famous and most numerously manufactured assault rifle family, beginning with the AK-47."
Thats right, the beginning of the AK-47.
Happy voting
Not nasty at all. I've said over and over that if this was a WW1 poll the LE would be right up there with the best of them. Fact is though that by WW2 it was obsolete. The LE didn't win the war by any stretch of the imagination. It got this far in the polls because of people being sentimental.
Set a group of guys with Enfields up against a group of guys of equal skill with MP44s and see what happens. The Enfields will get slaughtered. Likely the same result if their opponents have M1s, or SVTs, or G43s, or almost any other non bolt action infantry rifle available at that time.
Although having a MG in this list is like comparing apples to oranges I would argue too that the MG42 held a better tactical advantage and was useful in more situations than either the M1 or the LE. You can use that sucker against land, sea or air and it's effective.
Well the people have spoke and they are always right.
It saddens me that the freedoms our soldiers fought and died for are been gradually taken away. Pierre Trudeau should have been stood against a wall.
